Ophelia Claus
Modern Satire

I didn't come to break traditions. I didn't come to start anything just spread holiday cheer my way. The holidays are for everyone. The holidays are about spreading joy and love to everyone. That's where my heart is in. I love little children and love them as my own. I would do just about anything to see them smile and laugh. You know children are precious and children are beautiful. The way they laugh and they way they see the world. It brings you back and it makes you think. My father always taught me to look, listen and learn. Look at all the beauty surrounding you, absorb it and embrace it. Listen to all the noise, decipher and understand it. Learn about what you hear and see and know to make sure if it is correct. All my life I wanted to do what my father you probably suspected Santa Claus, no he's my uncle but Robinnus. Robinnus was a fine man that raised me. He was loving and gentle. He was patient and kind. And he knew I wanted to do something great. So he inspired me to read and read and learn and learn. I remember how my father wanted to know his family and I promised him that I would dedicate myself to knowing my family and making new family around the world. My father loved children and he would never compromised any child.
You're probably wondering what is like to have Santa Claus as an uncle. Santa Claus adopted me after my father passed. He heard my hurtful letter from the passing of my father and he made me an honorary Santa Claus niece. Santa did not want to replace a good man as my father but he wanted me to help him spread the holiday cheer. I first was resisted because of my situation but Santa said that if I got the toys on time then I would be great in his eyes and he would let me do it my way. A great boss and all the benefits who could resist. Now before my father died I did have degrees and many awards but I did not want the jobs offered because they were boring and did little difference. I knew I would regretted taking those positions especially when the greatest job came to my table to be Ophelia Claus. And yes Ophelia is my name and Santa said I could call myself Claus.
It happened that Santa Claus was not feeling well. You know Santa has been around for a long long long time. So I asked the boss and my new uncle if I could do it. Mrs. Claus quickly gave me the approval so Santa did too. I was so happy that I almost jumped through the roof. The reindeers and elves were already my friends because we have been practicing ever since I was an apprentice for Santa. But I made them sing my Santa Theme 'Think' by Aretha Franklin. In this fantasy, I was Aretha and they were my background singers. And then we took off. Things were looking good and clear skies and we were really flying. Then we finally came to the first house, I almost freaked out because I did not want to go down the chimney, too much charcoal, spiders and webs. Then I remember from class, snap the fingers twice. As soon as I did right inside the home next to the chimney with my bag of presents. I was quiet and soundproof. Then I snap to leave. I did this many times. Until one house I was caught by a little boy, he offered milk and cookies but I said I was on a diet. I told him I want him to dance with me then he could open one present. I close his parents' ears and everything in the house. And I played Think by Aretha Franklin, he said he did not know that song. I told him to try. And he did. And he showed me some more moves. I told their Alexi to play Jimi Hendrix version of Aretha Franklin's Think song. And the boy could not keep up. He opened his present and he thought I would go up the chimney and I said I will be off and you will be back in bed at the snap of a finger. It was a good night. And I hope to adventure more Father Christmastime or I mean Santa Claus. Maybe it will be your house next year, Away Off Away Comet, Dasher, Prancer, Dancer, Vixen, Cupid, Dunder, Blixem, Rudolph, Donner, & Blitzen.
