My Vocal Media Wish List

Improvements I would love to see

I have been writing on Vocal for one year now. I have around 264 stories and have a few top stories. I love the community feel of this site and have learned so much for other writers.

I have no idea if my improvements would garnish any interest form the powers to be but I thought, what the heck, put it out there and see.

Here is my wish list.

Easier Access to Story Stats

1. It would be great to go to directly to the stories, articles, or poems to view their reads, instead of having to scroll to go through the stat pages. As the number of articles grows, it becomes time-consuming to scroll through 20+ pages just to check stats for a specific story.

Tracking External Traffic

2. I do a lot of promoting on various sites such as Pinterest, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook Group Pages and Instagram. I would be incredibly helpful to track if any of the traffic is coming from these sites. Now I know that could be a change but if we could see just a range of direct internal traffic vs. external traffic that would be helpful.

Downloadable Content Option

3. Another cool option would be to allow for downloads. Let's say, I put up a recipe or book list, I would have the option to upload the PDF file and my readers could then download my file. This could open up for artist who want to add coloring pages, crafts project directions and so forth.

Headline Customization

4. We have the option to add a large title but it would be good to have a color choice for that title. Visuals are so important and this could help capture the audience and make for a more colorful read.

UNDERLINING OPTION & READER

5. I use to write on MEDIUM, but found it was not the community atmosphere that I was looking for. However, they had two very useful tools.

Underlining

On Medium, readers could underline parts of a story or poem that landed for them. This feature allowed readers to highlight specific lines, phrases, or moments that impacted them. The reward for the writer is to see what part of the work stood out. It would be wonderful to see a simliar feature on Vocal, to give more connection between the writer and readers.

Audio Option:

Medium also offers the option for readers listen to the story/article/poem. Some readers prefer to listen to the content through audio- whether they are folding laundry, driving, paintings, cooking or simply auditory learners. This feature might help to increase reads on longer stories, making them accessible to a wider audience.

Hopefully, some of my features can be considered at some point. I think my ideas would only enhance the experience for both the writer and the audience.

Thank you for reading.

I go hot and cold with Medium. Thanks for the nudge

  • Most browsers have a reader option, I sometimes add my coloured title to the main image using Canva, I've asked for Story read count and they have said they wont do it, and given the the stats have been faulty for years don't hold your breath, for downloadable files , create on using google docs or drive and create a link for everyone like https://docs.google.com/document/d/14LHgrfgp7dIkjSl5fr4HavIKQHoDmCfY49t-KIEKCKU/edit?usp=sharing

You gave some good ideas here. Who knows what new things will appear one day you will see one of your ideas.Good wishes.

Some interesting suggestions here. I can see the progamming complications with tracking external traffic. Downloadable PDFs would require some dedicated storage space, but I once installed a server-side plugin for one of my website clients that would generate one for download that would then be deleted after a set time.

I know which are external views on mine, for I am only promoting on Facebook. But thank you for the suggestion of Pinterest, I will promote on there also. Great Article.

I like your list very much. Me too I wish to see the N.2 tracking external traffic!
