My aspirations for Vocal

New Year’s resolutions? Not really my thing. But I’ve got some exciting stuff on my bucket list for 2024, and the biggest goal? Changing my name. I really hope my old fanbase sticks with me, but honestly, the past decade has been rough. I’ve dealt with terrible advice and retreated into my own little bubble, and I fear I might’ve lost a big chunk of my loyal followers along the way.

Looks like I’m starting fresh. And that’s where Vocal comes in. I’ve had this account for two years, but I barely used it, so I can’t really say how it’s shaped my goals yet. But that’s about to change. This platform is gonna be a key part of rebuilding my life.

I’m pumped to dive into this writing community and, fingers crossed, steer clear of the negativity I’ve faced before. 2024 is already off to a good start, and the changes are happening. I’ve got to admit, I love curling up with a cup of coffee in the morning and soaking up the amazing creations from other authors on Vocal. I know it’ll take some time to settle into this new morning routine, but I’m on the right track to make it happen.

This platform and all its features are still pretty new to me, so I know it’s going to take some time to explore everything. But I’m excited about what I can bring to the table as a published author and how I can help others chase their dreams. I love being around other aspiring writers and creators, and I can’t wait to be part of this vibrant community.

For the first time, I’m using an English-language platform that goes beyond just poetry, and I’m hoping to sharpen my English skills in the process. There’s always room to grow as a writer!

One of the best parts? The challenges. They’re pushing me out of my comfort zone and opening doors to new topics and genres. Each challenge is a chance to learn something new, and honestly, this text is proof of that. It forced me to rethink my writing style and, most importantly, it helped me set a visible goal for myself—something I’ve never done before.

Even this challenge has shown me that 2024 is shaping up to be another turning point in my life, steering me toward a brighter future. What started as personal growth is now seeping into my writing life, and I’m really excited to see what new skills and connections lie ahead.

I’ve already noticed some side effects from using Vocal that have influenced my life. I stumbled upon a new poetry platform, and I’m eager to dive into different forms and styles. I still remember the thrill of writing a Villanelle and a Diminishing Poem—something I never would’ve tried without Vocal. Every step I take, every piece I create, brings something fresh into my life, and I can’t wait to see where this journey leads!

Back in December, I kicked my writing into high gear to whip up fresh content for Vocal. I’m gradually shifting my routine from writing in German to writing in English. And let me tell you, I’m hoping to finally wrap up those unfinished short stories I started back in Mauritius. There are at least three tales I began but never got around to finishing because my German career just sucked up all my time. I loved that gig, but it really bummed me out that my fiancé couldn’t read anything I wrote.

That relationship crumbled under all the career pressure, but the desire for my future husband to read my work hasn’t faded. With Vocal, I know I’ll be able to sharpen my skills, and since it’s in English, he’ll finally be able to dive into my writing.

Ever since “The Troublemaker” became a top story, I’ve felt more motivated than ever to finish that piece. When I started it, it was part of a bigger vision—not really a novel but more like a collection of short stories about different kids in the same place and time. For the first time, I pulled “Children of Summer” out of the drawer and began to think about how to finish it. Vocal is going to be the perfect platform for that.

I’m still working on my plans, but my mind is buzzing with the idea of releasing a new story every month. I’m slowly building a daily writing routine, using Vocal to keep me focused and motivated. And from past experience, I know this will spark inspiration for new projects, too!

Lately, as I’ve been diving into Vocal more often, I’ve noticed a few things I wish were different. Maybe I just haven’t found them yet, but it’d be awesome if they popped up in the future. For starters, there’s no chat function. It’d be great to reach out to other creators privately to brainstorm ideas or collaborate on projects. That kind of connection could really open doors for all of us in the community.

I get it—there’s a lot of work involved, especially with all the legal stuff to sort out. But how cool would it be if the Vocal Shop had a dedicated section where we could find all the published books from Vocal creators?

Since I write a ton of poetry and usually whip it up on my phone, being able to upload directly through the app would be a game-changer. I’m all about using my MacBook and iPhone for ease, but for those who aren’t on Apple, I can see how it could be a hassle.

Still, I’m hopeful and excited that 2024 is going to be a fantastic year for all of us here on Vocal. I can’t wait to dive into all the amazing creations and opportunities that lie ahead!

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.” - Steve Jobs
