Dear Readers,

I am writing you today to cordially invite you all to participate and share far and wide my Dear Phoenix, Dear World, and Dear Me series. This trio of article series will consist of true letters, written from folks like you or folks like me. They are letters, written from the hearts of people around the world, and myself, and posted here on Vocal.

Dear Phoenix letters will consist of letters written by survivors and grievors. I find that there is healing in catharsis, and catharsis in writing a letter to someone who has abused you, or even a letter to someone whom you have lost and miss dearly. These letters will be filled with uncried tears, unspoken anger, broken promises, or silent grief. I want Phoenixes all around the world to write letters of healing and accusation.

Processing and facing my emotions of grief and anger were a HUGE step for me in my burning and then rising from the ashes. there is no easier way to face your emotions, process them, and then let them go than writing a letter to the person who hurt you the most or the person you miss the most.

Dear World letters can be letters to the world, to society, to civil rights groups, or whatever the world has given you that you are fed up with, or perhaps even grateful for. Things that you wish the world would hear from you. Write letters about the things that should be released so that karma can work its magic while you release the loud thoughts within your mind, allowing you room for more productive things.

Dear Me will be particularly well tended and cherished, as they are letters from people to themselves. Whether it be your past self, your future self, or even your present self, write a letter. Anything you want - but hopefully you practice kindness when you do write these letters. Sometimes, it's easier to write ourselves a letter as if we are talking to someone else. And that's okay because whatever you have to say is important.

Why should you write these letters and let me post them?

You don't have to. You could post them yourself. Or you could not post them at all.

But sometimes, especially when there is unresolved trauma or lack of closure, it feels good to have your words out there in the universe where someone can hear them. And words are important. Words are what saved my life on more than one occasion. I can't tell you how many unknown people's stories healed or molded my heart, changed my mind on things or even just gave me joy or hope. People I will never meet reached out with their words and saved me. They tore themselves open and posted it for the world to see - for me to find when I needed it.

Knowing that there was somebody out there in the world who had already survived what I was going through was enough to help me start turning my life around.

But sometimes putting those potentially life-saving, healing or helpful words out there and associating yourself with them... is scary. Terrifying even. Perhaps you're someone whose words might have consequences.

Consequences or not, you deserve to be heard right?

So make it anonymous. Or don't. Shout your words in the text with concise clarity for those to read and feel your reckoning.

Either way. Your words are important and they deserve to be read.

There is one rule: I will not post letters that encourage racism, hatred, division, abuse, oppression, or bigotry. If you have been the victim of these things, that's different.

So please respond back to this letter to the email of: [email protected] and label the subject line as whichever Series you are writing a letter for: Dear Phoenix, Dear World, or Dear Me.

(I know the email doesn't sound all niche, it's my old business email from when I owned a brick-and-mortar thrift store before switching everything to online. Do NOT forget the tn at the end. It stands for Tennessee. If you forget it you'll be sending your letters to someone else)

Because I will copy and paste your letter from my email onto vocal and format it, please ensure you have proofread your letters and there are as few spelling errors as possible.

Thank you for your time, my friends.

With so much love,

Me.
