I'm in Search of a New Laptop

Slow start up speeds, a laptop that has gotten its use out of it. It's time for a new laptop

I use my laptop ALOT! Especially when it comes to writing. It's going on about six years old and it has most definitely gotten its use out of it!

There have been several signs that a new laptop will very much likely be happening in the near future. As in the next few months.

Slow loading and start up times

It took me about 10 minutes to power on my laptop, and get on my web browser (Google Chrome). A more up to date laptop would only take not even five minutes.

With a start up time that slow, I just do a short task around the house then come back. 😅

No charge

My laptop has to be on the charger constantly in order for it to power on. If I accidently knock the cord out and disconnect my laptop … my laptop dies instantly and then it takes forever for my laptop to power back on and get back to where it was before.

Because of that, I always make sure I am constantly saving my work or in an area where I know my laptop won't easily get unplugged.

Some of the keys don't work half the time

I'm looking at you A key and Q key 😒

It doesn't surprise me that the A key went out first. Amusingly, it has resulted in me pressing and constantly and gently lifting the key just to type "a". Sometimes it would take forever to get it to work so I resorted to copying and pasting an "a" that was already in my document to the section where I needed that "a" to be.

I know! 😅

It also doesn't help that my keyboard needs cleaned of debris.

Just saying. I didn't have to do all that as I wrote this! All keys have actually worked just fine. Surprisingly! Knock on wood.

I feel that it would be best to just get a new laptop all together. Besides one with a better and more reliable and faster performance, I want one with a new design as well.

I've been browsing on Amazon just to scope out and get an idea of what sort of laptop I want.

My laptop is an HP and while it has served its purpose well, I'm not sure if I want my next laptop to be another HP or if I just want to try something different. I've heard Dell and Lenovo are two other high quality laptop brands. I've also heard some good things about Google Chrome. I'm definitely on the fence right now!

I do know that I want something that is:

  • More compact and transportable

I'd love to be able to take my laptop every now and then to the local cafe. Sometimes I just need a change of environment rather than writing at home.

  • Is ideal for tasks like writing, designing, and web browsing.

BONUS:

While not essential, it would be nice to have a laptop with an illuminating keyboard. It would be perfect for evening and night time writing - the hours I usually feel the most productive with writing!

Again. I use my laptop primarily for writing followed by web browsing. I also use Canva and am planning on using it more so I would need a laptop that has a vivid display screen.

I would also use it to stream shows to watch in the evening from time to time.

I have gotten my use out of my current laptop. While frustratingly slow, I can't say it was unreliable. It has definitely served its purpose well and without it, I wouldn't have gotten as much writing done as I do now.

If you have any laptops that you highly recommend, I'd most definitely take them into consideration!

That sounds like you really need a new one! How much time you could have spent on writing instead of waiting for it to turn on and stuff! I got myself a Huawei laptop, my watch and my phone is the same brand and I am very happy with them so I thought I give it a try (also it was affordable). It works perfectly! For what I need (writing, Netflix, maybe a small game) it's great and it syncs well with the other Huawei devices and I can share anything between them with a click, and their cloud allows me to access a lot of stuff on each device in the same time. Especially good for writing, since I have notes everywhere.

  • My laptop is a Lenovo and about a year old, I had to update my 14 year old one (but it was red and I loved it, it just went out of date). So I can recommend a Lenovo laptop. Thankyou for sharing, how did we manage before laptops? Xx
