There was a time when I took _______ for granted. Now, I _______. Rupi Kaur's Gratitude Writing Prompts

There was a time when I took life for granted. Now, I know how precious and short life can be. At 70, I know how many things can go wrong in this part of life.

When I think about how fast time seems to move as we age. And how my mother died at age 75. I remember when the average death age of our Native American people was 45. I thought that was old. Now my children are all 3 older and two of my 4 stepchildren are older than that too.

In 2021, life expectancy was 65.2 for Native Americans in this country. Some people are saying due to covid. I've heard as high as age 75 for the expected death rate. I haven't seen the stats for 2024 yet. A couple of my closest friends are 78 and 80 years old, both Native American.

Today, I do what I can to extend my life. Eat better, exercise as I can, keep the stress down, keep all my medical appointments, and take the prescribed medications.

If gratitude was food, it would taste like _____________ Rupi Kaur's Gratitude Writing Prompts

If gratitude was food, it would taste like dark chocolate! I am so happy to be grateful rather than a negative Nelly. Dark chocolate has always made me happy. Now that I have given up sugar, I'm not sure what it will be.

Hershey's cocoa powder is not the same as the dark chocolate I am thinking of. Maybe no-sugar whipped cream with dark chocolate cocoa powder will do? Probably not! So what will the food be that compares with gratitude then? A rack of ribs with sugar-free BBQ? Is there such a thing?

I guess I will have to figure it out. I'm not worried as I am very new to going off sugar but it is not the first time. Moving off of sugar in the past, the cravings went away too! It is still too early to tell.

What sets your soul on fire? Rupi Kaur's Gratitude Writing Prompts

When my children and grandchildren are doing well I never have to worry that they are struggling and won't be able to support themselves and their babies. I am so happy for my children. Six of them are successful, and one continues to struggle. She is in her addiction, we pray and love her!

Then when I am training and someone gets what I put out there! And when someone I sponsor is in service and doing well, climbing the ladder of success! I am so proud of them!

Spending time with hubby, family, and friends, and doing what we enjoy doing together sets my soul on fire!

What rituals do you enjoy the most and why? Rupi Kaur's Gratitude Writing Prompts

I enjoy attending the water ceremony on Sunday morning, at 9:00 a.m. I love the songs, the smudge, and the talking circle involved.

I look forward to any smudging ceremony or pipe ceremony.

I enjoy taking care of myself, whether it is makeup, dress or writing, gratitude lists, and prayer. My regular rituals around the house are important to me also. Keeping the dishwasher empty and filling it through the day. Wiping the counters down and putting things away.

I enjoy talking to my children in person, by text, and on the phone regularly. Sometimes daily weekly or less often when everything is going well. I always tell them I love them. (The last sentence seems like the ritual.)

I enjoy getting together with my sister friends. It is fun to get a meal together, but texting or talking on the phone is important to stay in touch. Catching up on life is an important part of spending time. Being supportive of whatever is going on!

I hope to never take life for granted. Good BBQ tastes like gratitude to me. When my Hubby, our children, family, and friends are all doing well that sets my soul on fire. Then the rituals I experience in life that are fun for me and mine is what I enjoy the most!

To me, gratitude tastes like too but milk chocolate hehehe. My favourite ritual is sleep 😋😋😋

  • Lovely! Every day is a gift from the Lord! It’s too easy to take them for granted. My Mum also died at age 75, however her mother & aunts all died in their early 60s… so she packed a lot into the ‘extra’ 15 years!😊
