What’s up with this random capitalization of common nouns? It grieves me, about as much as bold italicized font (why? It makes no sense). Why would an entire story need to be in either bold or italicized font? Again, both makes no sense whatsoever. Fonts have meaning.
Bold font is for emphasis. Yes, sweetie, I understand that you want to emphasize every precious word that flows from you, but can you justify it? Is there a difference between emphasizing everything and emphasizing nothing? Not really. So why assault your readers’ eyes?
If it’s already in bold font, why italicize? Correct me if I’m wrong, but italics denote mild (or tonal) emphasis, and bold font denotes strong emphasis. Using both says, “I don’t understand the language of fonts,” or “Everything I write should be emphasized twice.” Frankly, I’m not a fan of either.
Why not let the work speak for itself? Does everything have to include self-gratifying performance in this post-modern world? Or is everyone woefully ignorant about font meanings? Does anyone care at all about the reader?
