London-based influencer has ended her one-year marriage after divorcing herself.
Suellen Carey, a 36-year-old model originally from Brazil, made headlines last year after marrying herself in a ceremony widely dubbed as “sologamy”. She shared the unconventional event with her 400,000 Instagram followers, attracting significant media attention worldwide.
Despite her unique commitment, Suellen recently revealed that she has divorced herself, citing loneliness as a key factor. “I realised that self-reflection is essential,” she said. “Even a marriage with oneself has its challenges, like the pressure to be perfect all the time.”
Suellen sought therapy to work through her feelings, undergoing 10 sessions to try and save her self-marriage. However, she ultimately decided that ending the marriage was the healthiest option. “I was putting a lot of pressure on myself, which left me exhausted,” she admitted, reflecting on the emotional toll.
While the experience of marrying herself was described as “enriching” and a journey of self-discovery, Suellen has no regrets about her decision to end it. “I realised my sologamous marriage was a healing process, but personal growth can lead us in different directions,” she explained.
Now, Suellen is ready to open a new chapter, expressing a willingness to pursue a traditional relationship. “I’ve decided it’s time to move on and open my heart to new possibilities, including finding a partner.”
Despite the end of her solo union, Suellen remains positive about the lessons she gained from her unique adventure
