THE NEW YORK Times ran a cleverly razor sharp headline on their website — surprise, surprise — on Joe Biden’s 52-minute speech Monday night in Chicago. The headline? The Speech Biden Never Wanted to Make. The piece by Peter Baker eloquently penned, away from the curious but violence, at the Democratic Convention in Chicago. The column brings to life the sentiments folks sternly believe, but, maybe are scared — wait, no: embarrassed is a more apt description — to utter such thoughts in public display. Think about it, now.
A few months ago, Biden was expected to a fire and brimstone go-get-em pep talk in Chicago to receive the Democratic holy hallowed stamp of approval, then making multiple zip zag flights across the United States of America. Campaign speeches. Shaking countless hands. Always being positive. Long days. Short nights. And then election day, and then, winning it: preparing for the real speech he wanted to give, seconds after taking — and feverently embracing the oath of the president.
Instead Biden’s homily was was good bye and thank you from the career politician who flew the American flag with unmatched pure patriotism. He loves America. you can see it. He sings the Star Spangled Banner — every time — like it was the first, and only, time he would sings, oh say can you see? There wasn’t anything. Anything. He would do for his country. He must have the selfless creed of. Check your ego at the door behind every door. Just to be sure. To be properly, and dutifully, reminded.
There has been attacks, some quite mean-spirited, about Biden's 81-year-old best before date Suggestions of Biden's mental capacity was slipping. And, yes.. there have been. Perhaps, the most obvious was broadcast for all to see: the president struggled with a few sentences and figures in the presidential debate against Donald J. Trump. But there’s one fundamental core value he remains steadfast.
I have to wonder if one of those signs — remember? Check your ego at the doof —hangs behind a door in the president’s 7,000 square feet Delaware beachfront home. For it was at that residence, the Atlantic Ocean violently crashing against its beaches, on a June day, a nagging and growling cough from COVID … and facing the polling numbers, while certainly not scientific proof, strongly points to a potential Republican Party-led by Donald J. Trump. Maybe, Biden saw that has his swan song: not to lead, of course — but to graciously empower a woman 31 years younger, vice president Kamala Harris, to run rather than him t in what I believe, is the most important elections in U.S. history, if not the world. Biden, in the 48th minute of his speech, referred to the storming of the Capital four years ago. we saved democracy in 2020 an we must save it again in 2024.” Taking one for the team. Joe Bidden? Absolutely.
I am not sure what a president of the United States of America does right after they take the presidential oath. I do know, however, there is a gala dinner and dance. Joe Biden didn’t make such a journey Monday night: he left Chicago for a family vacation in California. And for a man I have much deep respect and admiration for, I hope he kicks back, enjoys an ice cream cone … and realize the profound impact you have made to public service and world peace.
