Toyota Day brings the all-new GR YARiS. The new car is a high-performance version of the all-new YARiS, with a three-door hatchback layout and a turbocharged 1.6T three-cylinder engine with a maximum horsepower of 272PS. Paired with a six-speed manual and all-wheel-drive system, it can accelerate 0-100km/h in 5.5s.

Ciie 2020: Toyota GR Yaris This extremely grumpy performance YARiS overturns our impression of the YARiS model being gentle and elegant. More importantly, it is the second global GR series model after the GR Supra, which is not limited and will be launched in many markets around the world in the second half of 2020.

GR YARiS's vehicle design is purely performance-oriented. It is built on TNGA GA-B platform, with specially strengthened and lightweight frame structure, carbon fiber roof, aluminum alloy hood/door/tail door. The ordinary version of YARiS is basically similar to GR YARiS only in shape and outline.

The appearance of GR YARiS is full of Japanese performance, and the most eye-catching is the wide-body design of the front and rear wings. Looking at the current production performance cars, there are only a handful of wide-body design with such exaggerated and radical style. The front of the car is surrounded by the piano paint in the middle of the mouth type air grille, both sides of the fog light area is equipped with air duct and black trim, and wide body collocation to form a very aggressive appearance.

Toyota has added curves to the tight body of the GR YARiS to create a dynamic visual effect. The wide body at the front and back allows the car to have wider wheel bases and wider tires and hubs. The car was originally fitted with Dunlop SP Sport MAXX 050 or Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres with 225/40 R18 specifications.

Hidden inside the 18-inch, ten-spoke lightweight hub are high-performance brakes consisting of front four/rear two piston brake calipers and front 356mm/ rear 297mm streated brake discs. For the suspension system of the GR YARiS, Toyota has made great efforts, not simply replacing the suspension barrel with larger damping on the basis of the ordinary version of the suspension, but specially developing and designing the suspension in accordance with the performance orientation.

At the rear, the car is fitted with a black spoiler, black tail lip and two-sided sport exhaust, and a black trim is added between the taillights to further highlight the competitive style. In terms of body size, the GR YARiS has a length, width and height of 3995/1805/1460mm and a wheelbase of 2558mm, reducing the body height by as much as 91mm compared to the new five-door YARiS.

As a performance car, the GR YARiS has an all-black interior. Based on the regular all-new YARiS, the interior features a GR sports steering wheel, a GR dashboard with a 280km/h table bottom, metal pedals, and leather and Alcantara sports seats.

In terms of comfort and convenience configuration, the car is equipped with a large screen with central touch control, dual area automatic air conditioning, front seat heating and JBL audio, etc., without shrinking in comfort configuration because of the pursuit of pure driving sense.

The GR YARiS is powered by a specially enhanced 1.6T three-cylinder turbocharged engine with a maximum power of 200kW (272PS) and peak torque of 370N·m, paired with a six-speed manual transmission and GR-Four all-wheel-drive system. Officials say the car can accelerate 0-100km/h in 5.5s, with top speed limited to 230km/h by electronic systems.

The all-wheel-drive system, called GR-FOUR, is an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch that switches power between 100:0 and 0:100 on the front and rear axle. The power distribution of the front and rear axles is similar to Subaru's DCCD four-wheel-drive. The driver can directly control the power distribution of the four-wheel-drive through 4WD mode adjustment function. The default power distribution of the front and rear axle is 60:40 in normal mode, 30:70 in sport mode, and 50:50 in track mode. The all-wheel-drive system then adjusts the power allocated to the front and rear axle actively according to the changes of road conditions and the driver's operation, in order to achieve the best control performance and stability.

For the avid enthusiast, Toyota also offers an optional Circuit Pack that includes the front and rear axle Towson LSD limited-slip differential, 18-inch forged wheels and more. Many parts of the GR YARiS will need to be assembled by hand, so its capacity will be limited.
