Top Tips for Cleaning Your Tesla's Interior
Every Tesla owner likes the outside of their car to be nice and shiny, but what about the inside?
If you own a Tesla, there is every chance that it is your pride and joy, so you are likely to want to keep it looking that way. Whilst the outside might get a clean every Sunday afternoon, the interior can sometimes be forgotten, and when this becomes scruffy it can have a significant impact on the resale value of your car.
We have put together our guide on the best ways to keep the inside of your Tesla on point so that you can enjoy it every day and get the most out of it when the times comes to sell it.
Move quickly
As with any spills and stains, the quicker you act the better. Whether it is on the seats, carpets, or trim, if you do make a mess, try to clean it up as quickly as possible to avoid it leaving any marks behind. The quicker that you deal with it, the better the results are likely to be.
Seats
The seats of any car can often be forgotten when it comes to a cleaning routine. Make sure that you vacuum them on a regular basis to get and crumbs, dust and dirt out of any creases. If there are any spills or marks on your seats, then clean them with a microfibre cloth that has been moistened, but not soaked, with warm water and a non-detergent soap. Then clean the area gently using circular motions and dry it with a soft, lint free cloth.
Tesla boast that the surfaces have been designed to repel stains, but this does not mean that they don’t need to be cleaned at all. In fact, by cleaning them regularly, you help to maintain the performance of the fabric. When cleaning the seats, it is important to avoid products which use harsh chemicals such as alcohol or bleach.
Carpets
The carpets of your Tesla are likely to go through a lot of wear and tear. No matter how careful we are, they are always going to be subjected to a lot of dirt, debris, and moisture, so it is important to clean them regularly to keep them clean and free of bad smells.
Make sure that you vacuum them frequently, and if you do need to clean them, avoid over-wetting them. Make sure that you use dedicated upholstery cleaner to get the best results. If there is any ground in dirt, then a soft brush can be used to agitate the area and loosen up anything that seems a little more stubborn, ready for you to vacuum it away.
You can invest in some good quality car mats to keep your carpets looking good for longer. Made from high quality materials, they can prevent your carpet being ruined by stains and wear, and they can be easily removed for cleaning.
Touchscreen
The touchscreen is the beating heart of your Tesla and will be something that you touch every single day. This means that it can easily become dirty, and fingerprints and smears will be a regular feature. Tesla themselves provide you with a soft lint-free cloth that has been designed for use on the touchscreen, so you should make good use of this.
As tempting as it might seem, try to avoid using any chemical cleaners such as glass cleaners or alcohol-based gel products like sanitiser on the screen as this can damage it. You should also avoid typical cleaning favourites like wet wipes or dry statically charged cloths such as a recently washed microfibre cloth.
It might seem impossible to wipe the touchscreen without altering your settings as it is constantly on whenever you are in the car. However, Tesla have thought of this, and have provided a cleaning setting. Simply touch Controls and navigate to Display and then Screen to find Clean Mode. This will darken the display in order to avoid you pressing anything unintentionally and to make it easier to see any dust and marks.
Door seals
You might not think that your deal seals need any particular attention, but if excessive debris builds up here, it can cause paint damage on surrounding surfaces. These seals simply need a gentle wipe with a damp cloth – there is no need for alcohol or chemical products as these could be damaging to the coating on the door seals.
Trunk
It can be easy to forget the trunk and the frunk when you are cleaning, but these can be just as important. Make sure you vacuum them thoroughly, even if they do not get used very often in order to prevent a build of dust. Tackle any stains carefully and make sure the trim is cleaned gently. You should also make sure that you wipe around any seals to keep them free of dirt and debris as well.
Glass
Glass and mirrored surfaces are prone to scratching, so make sure that you do not use anything abrasive on them when cleaning them, which will affect the reflectiveness or the heating elements in the rear window. Make sure that you stick to a soft cloth and a non-abrasive cleaning fluid.
Keep it frequent
Don’t wait until a special occasion or the time you put it up for sale to clean the interior of your Tesla, as it is likely to be a much harder task. Keeping on top of it not only makes it a much smaller task, but also means that problems have not been given a chance to grow. Stains can be removed more easily; smells can be eliminated, and dirt does not get the chance to bed in if you tackle it all regularly.
Cleaning the interior of your Tesla can be a satisfying task and will soon get it back to looking just like new. By doing this on a regular basis, your car will maintain a higher standard for longer, and that means it will also have a much higher resale value when the time comes for the two of you to part ways.
