The 7 Greatest James Bond Cars of All Time

It can be difficult to find new entertainment while staying at home

By Colt JacobsPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

It can be difficult to find new entertainment while staying at home. We all watch a lot of television. Don't let the hours go by watching mindless reality shows and late-night shopping ads. FitMyCar's favourite franchise, James Bond, has kept many of its staff busy while they were stuck at home over weekends. There has been a lot of debate within the office about which Bond car is the best. Here's what the team had a to say.

7.

The 1974 AMC Hornet X

Although the AMC Hornet may not look like your typical Bond car, that's only because it's not. The Hornet showed that you don't have to be armed with expensive gadgetry in order to make your name on the big screen. It performed one of the most impressive stunts in 007 history, a mid-air barrel roll over a river in 1974’s The Man With The Golden Gun.

6. The 2002 Aston Martin Vanquish

2002's Die Another Day was filled with ridiculous gadgets and devices, arguably none more so the Aston Martin 'Vanish' Vanquish fitted with an invisibility-cloaking function. We loved it, even during the 7-minute car chase over ice. It's almost as special as the Jaguar XKR with which it competes.

5. The 1999 BMW Z8

Bond didn't always choose the Aston Martin as his vehicle of choice. Bond was able to drive a variety of BMWs in the 1990's. The Z8 from The World is Not Enough was our favorite, with its own surface to air missile launcher and "six cup holders". It didn't last very long and was cut in half before it could be flown in full. Ouch.

4. The 1985 Aston Martin V8 Vantage

After an 18-year Bond hiatus, Aston Martin returned triumphantly to Bond in 1987's The Living Daylights under Timothy Dalton. The V8 Vantage model was equipped with missiles, lasers, and tire spikes. It even had jet propulsion, making it ideal for the famous snow-chase. You can see the trailer for No Time to Die and how the Vantage is set to return in No Time to Die.

3. The 1967 Toyota 2000GT

Toyota and the studio produced 1967's You Only Live Twice. They agreed to include the 2000GT in the movie's halo car. They didn't realize Sean Connery was too tall to fit in the car, so they removed sections of the roof to make it a targa. The only convertible 2000GT was born. Although the bespoke model doesn't have all the latest gadgets, it is still stylish enough to be considered a classic.

2. 2. The 1976 Lotus Esprit S1

The mid-70s Lotus was not as exciting as other European manufacturers. Don McLaughlin, the PR boss, knew that a role in Bond's upcoming film would change all this. He took an unreleased Esprit coupe and removed all its badges. The car was then parked outside Bond's building. (The car was so low it went straight under the security gate). The rest is history. The Esprit was one of the most famous Bond cars, appearing first in 1975's The Spy Who Almost Loved Me. The car, nicknamed "Wet Nellie", was capable of turning into a fully functioning submarine.

1. The 1963 Aston Martin DB5

The silver 1963 Aston Martin DB5 is the number one car. This iconic sports car will forever be associated with 007, and it first appeared alongside him as Goldfinger in 1964. It is often considered the greatest Bond movie of all time. The car was equipped with pop-up machine guns and an ejector seat. It won hearts at the time and continues to bring smiles to audiences today, with many appearances in Daniel Craig-era films. It will always embody James Bond's signature style - being as elegant as he is deadly.
