PASSION vs. DEDICATION
I want to say starting off, this story goes out in loving memory to Samuel Casas. The brother of the man named Manny Alvarez and I will explain why they mean family to me. In my story “Coast to Coast” I described the car scene as overwhelming in Phoenix, Arizona. There are way too many social groups with car enthusiasts that like different categories. You have to keep in mind also I have no vehicle so not a lot of car enthusiasts will talk to you unless you had the knowledge, camera, or the biggest one a car. I understand though I had to lay low, because I was still in the process of settling in Arizona so I wasn’t keen on looking for attention anyway. I did want that car enthusiast to just chat with, I have a few still I stay in touch with via social media, text, and calls. I have my friend from day one Austin he pushes me, but he is on the other side of the country. I believe the universe brings you the right energy in due time, it is hard to find people who even have the passion to be a car enthusiast. I don’t even want to bring up dedication because on social media we have no idea who is really into or just looking for somewhere to fit in. Manny and Sam have passion and dedication, it isn’t one or the other that describes them either. Each of them project both passion and dedication and it wasn’t till I met them the wheels started turning no pun intended. It is so hard to find genuine people that have attributes like that, at the time in Washington State the car scene found me. I was going home and my first set of crazy roommates left me for a show not letting me know, but okay. I met this guy though and it wasn’t him asking me about my hobbies or I saw his car. In fact he just liked the backpack I had on at the time, for some reason since then everyone was always complimenting the backpack I had on. I ended up finally getting a plain one only, because I want to just get on with my life and stop meeting other people. Anyway we just clicked like that and he took me to my first show. Then after that things started rolling, that is how I describe Manny and Sam. They got the ball rolling off of humble beginnings for me, I almost stopped writing when I felt as if it wasn’t going anywhere then Manny and the other car enthusiast that supported me told me to keep going. In all honesty this writing thing is supposed to help work towards a car, but I think we should ask for more? If Vocal is supposed to support those with a passion for a craft or hobby, where is my race car or sponsorship to my race team to build a race car? The reason being, Vocal can’t even support themselves. I am not the one to wait for opportunity, I am just learning what patience is. My circle knows that I hate asking, but I have to be humble when I say never wait for someone to help you. Go out and get it yourself, I still have a day job. I rarely get to sleep, so when I say I am always dedicated to my passion I mean it. I can’t compare passion vs. dedication like you guys with no real goals in life, my circle won’t allow it. So as I finish up here remember why you wake up and go to your job you say you work so hard at. My circle doesn’t question themselves, they go in and do it. In the time for you it takes to come up with a plan to go and do something you could have done it. Don't say you were too busy reading this, I just want to be able to give you a little direction here so you won't feel too offended. That isn't my plan I just want you to realize that sometimes it won't happen overnight, if you keep stepping in the wrong mud and sitting there figuring on how to get out. I will end this here, because I still step in mud I just get out faster then I did and we don't need the blind leading the blind. I have glasses, but I am just trying to motivate you not tell you how to live your life.
Here is the story to my Journey as a car enthusiast:
After I had graduated high-school there was very slim plans for me, I had the case of the slow start. I was really trying, I kept hunting for jobs over and over. I even witnessed someone throw away my application, so my goals already started to diminish. I had neither passion nor dedication to anything, my eyes were glued to social media and watching things go by. I had no motivation to get up until I ran into my buddy Austin I described to you in the first part of the story. We had reconnected to catch up on old times, he was on the way to a college party and he was inviting me to come along. He was aware I had knowledge of some automotive technician experience, either way he needed help to put a motor back together for an old Ford pick up truck. That was our only way of getting there, but in my head I had realized this was a dual opportunity. I get to work on a skill and get rewarded for it by partying, in all honesty the motor was put back together but his father who by the way I want to give recognition to. His father is no longer with us, as I describe this story you have to realize there are people out there who go through things and you won't even know it. So just be mindful of people, I know in my writing I come off a bit harsh. I also am a very kind and humble man, I am aware there is a time and place of everything. Let's get back to the story, his father pointed out a few problems with the motor. The truck would have started, but we would have destroyed the motor. Austin just told me to go to bed and gave me a hundred dollars for helping, that hundred dollars took me a long way. In the next few months I ended up getting my first job and my drivers license, thus the journey had started. In a few months later I had discovered credit, that led to my first car which was bad due to irresponsible decisions ; like purchasing a hotel room to throw a twenty first birthday party or buying the cleanest wheels for my car. Far from all that though, my first car took me on a journey like no other as a car enthusiast. No one understood why that car made me happy, but looking back now if I had to start over I wouldn't change a thing. See to understand a journey like this you will have to have both passion and dedication. I can't compare the two for you, because I am around people who demonstrate these attributes well and it shows. Just ask yourself "are you dedicated?"
