Every people who owns a Land Rover car would want their car to run smooth always because they all want others should have a positive impression on their cars. Basically, a car can run smooth or rough depending on how their engine and the drivetrain system performs. The clutch is one of the drive train components and hence it too has roles in making the car to perform better. It’s a mechanical component which can become faulty if not used in correct way, aging, lack of care. There are also some other factors too. The Land Rover cars now a days mostly get the clutch issues which has to be solved earlier, without much delay. Here I’m gonna discuss about the tips on maintenance and repair of the clutch to have an optimal driving experience.

The importance of clutch and its repair

A clutch is a very essential part of a vehicle. It helps the engine to provide torque and power to the wheels and make the car to run smoothly by providing it correct amount of power and torque suitable for driving in current situation. The clutch connects the engine to the transmission while you drive the car. So, because of the clutch, the transmission gets the power supply from the engine and is able to use the engine revs to provide the appropriate torque to the wheels. The torque from the engine is modified to a suitable speed for the wheels by the drivetrain including the clutch. the clutch consists of a metal circular disk which gets connected to the engine and the transmission when the vehicle is in reverse or drive mode because in these two modes, the car starts to move.

While shifting the gears, the clutch pedal is pressed. Pressing the clutch pedal makes the clutch disc to move away to disconnect the engine from the transmission. This allows you to change the gears safely. When the clutch is engaged to a gear, then it would be very difficult to shift to other gear because the current gear would be consistent in its work. Shifting the gear without disengaging the clutch can damage the gears. When the pedal is pressed, the power supply to the current gear is cut off and then you can safely shift to other gears and then the pedal is released to again engage the clutch. So, the clutch also permits the safe shifting of the gears in manual transmission to protect the transmission.

Repair and maintenance of the clutch

The clutch is a mechanical component, hence like other moving mechanical components, the clutch also has chances of wear and tear. Therefore, it also needs maintenance. If there would be no maintenance then the clutch would gradually reduce its functioning and lead to severe performance issues. But how can we know if the clutch is bad or not? Here is some common clutch problem signs found in Land Rover cars.

 Shifting gears become difficult

 Squeaking and grumbling noise when the clutch is pressed

 Engine RPM is normal but the car accelerates poorly

 Spongy clutch pedals

If you get such signs, then get alerted. Get your clutch mechanism inspected well. There may be some leakage of clutch fluid, some mechanical part stuck due to dirt and debris, some parts may have got rusted. You have to replace the faulty parts carefully.

Check if the clutch plate is worn or not, if it is worn, then it can lead to some strange odor. So, replace the clutch plate if it is found faulty.

Generally, the clutch replacements can cost you more, therefore try to prevent it. Avoiding keeping your foot on the clutch pedal when not in use. Do not use the clutch pedals in place of brake. While accelerating from zero, keep in mind that you should not try to accelerate it too fast, this can damage the clutch and the gears.

Conclusion

By taking care of your clutch and diagnosing it in time you can save your money as well as time. Take your car for clutch service at Land Rover service center.
