How to Address No Spark Issues in Your Rolls-Royce?
Spark Issues in Your Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce is no ordinary automaker... The brand is a legend, renowned for fabricating exceptional luxury automobiles. However, despite having a reputation as a symbol of engineering excellence, periodic mechanical breakdowns are not uncommon for its vehicles. The sole purpose of this blog post is to demystify one of the most complained about problems in Rolls-Royce models… no spark issues.
What Causes No Spark?
#1- Faulty ignition components: The ignition system, at the most basic levels, can be defined as a system designed to generate electric sparks to facilitate the combustion of air-fuel mixture inside the cylinder. Some of the key components that make up Rolls-Royce ignition system include spark plugs, ignition coils, distributor caps, rotors, etc. No sparks would be produced if any of these components fail to function.
The ignition coil, for example, helps transform the vehicle’s low battery voltage into high voltage, thereby enabling the spark plugs to create electric sparks. Other components including the distributor cap and rotor also help in spark generation in their own ways. Any form of deformity in any of these components can result in spark deficiency-related issues in your Rolls-Royce.
#2- Electrical issues: High-voltage electrical discharge is what produces electric sparks across the spark plug’s electrodes. There is a special arrangement in place to convey electricity from the battery to the ignition system components. If the power supply to any of these components gets cut off, the spark plugs won’t be able to fire properly, creating a no-spark condition.
There can be many different reasons why the power supply to key ignition system components might get disrupted… ranging from faulty wiring to blown fuses. Loose or corroded electrical connections can also prevent the flow of electricity to essential ignition system components including spark plugs. Disrupted power supply to key ignition system parts may contribute to issues such as sporadic starting problems, poor performance, etc.
#3- Sensor malfunctions: No-spark condition in Rolls-Royce vehicles can also be resulted from a faulty sensor. Spark plug firing timing is regulated by a control unit―an electrical component that decides at what interval spark plugs should fire, based on real-time inputs received from numerous sensors. Erroneous data sent by any of these sensors can prevent timely spark plug firing, devising no-spark condition.
Real-time data sent by the crankshaft and camshaft position sensors helps the engine management computer to sync fuel injection and spark plug firing timing. Should one of these sensors give up, the coordination between spark and fuel injection will be disrupted, contributing to no-spark conditions.
#4- Ignition module failure: At the center of Rolls-Royce ignition system is a module. Among other things, this module determines the precise timing of the spark. A glitch in a part of such significance can contribute to no-spark issues in addition to a bunch of other problems.
Diagnosing No-Spark Issues
#1- Inspect spark plugs and ignition components: Check if they have sustained any form of physical damage… look for signs of wear, corrosion, and carbon build-up. Other important ignition system components including the coils should also be inspected for deformities like burn marks.
#2- Examine electrical connections: Wiring connecting the power source to vital ignition system components should be examined for any loose, frayed, or corroded wires. Fuses and relays in the circuit should also be inspected. If you notice any form of deformation, have the issue fixed to prevent a power cut-off to key ignition system components.
#3- Test sensors and modules: Efficient combustion of air-fuel mixture inside the combustion chamber is possible because of these tiny components. A glitch in any of these components can cause a no-spark condition… contributing to all sorts of performance issues.
#4- Call in professionals: When was the last time you had your Rolls-Royce ignition system components checked??? Having the system examined by certified professionals from time to time can prevent any minor inconvenience from becoming an expensive repair.
Final Thought
If your Rolls-Royce ignition system fails to produce electric sparks, it could be due to a malfunctioning coil, defective spark plugs, faulty wiring, ignition module failure, sensor malfunction, defective ignition system components, etc. Call in factory trained technicians to have the issue fixed before it turns into an expensive repair. We hope this helps…
