The clutch is a very important parts of the car ad is operated by pressing and releasing the clutch pedal under the dashboard of the car. The clutch pedal is the third pedal of the car used when the gears are changed. But it is absent in the automatic transmission, that’s why many of the car drivers, mostly the drivers of the automatic transmission cars are unaware of the clutch. In manual cars, clutch is very much essential to drive perfectly. Here you will know about the clutch repair done for Porsche cars.

Functions and working of the clutch in Porsche

The clutch is the component of the manual transmission cars. It connects the transmission with the engine so that the engine can transfer the power and torque to the transmission. In addition to that the clutch allows you to change the gears by disconnecting it from the engine. It also makes the car slow down without harming the engine when its pedal is pressed. The clutch is in the form of torque converter in automatic transmission and doesn’t need to be operated manually.

The clutch pedal present in the car is used to make the release mechanism work. The force applied on the clutch pedal is transmitted to the hydraulic piston in the clutch system. This piston provides a force to the throughout spring to release it in the diaphragm spring, the diaphragm spring then pulls the pressure plate away from the clutch disc to release it from the engine. During this period, the gears are shifted. The shifting of the gears becomes easier and safer by the clutch mechanisms.

Repairing the clutch

Before the repair, you have to be sure that your clutch has some problems by the signs from your car like, slipping of the gears, hard to press the clutch or unresponsive clutch, spongy pedals, grinding noises, etc. From these strange signs from clutch, you can identify clutch problem. The clutch problems cause the shifting problems and power loss. Therefore, it has to be fixed by the clutch repair. The clutch repair is not a very easy task. You will have to use all the tools required for the clutch repair and also the clutch parts. The repair may take 12 hours. The tools required will be torque wrench, clutch alignment tool and flywheel lock.

For the parts, you have to get a complete clutch kit.

 First you have to remove the transmission from your car. After removal of the transmission, you have to remove the pressure plate by removing all the bolts from pressure plate.

 Check the flywheel if it is faulty or not by twisting the dual mass flywheel pressure plate to both right and left direction. If it is not getting twisted at all or gets twisted easily with no increase of spring force beyond 15 mm, then the flywheel can be faulty and you have to replace it. These parts do last for 100000 miles.

 You have to unbolt the flywheel by the help of the flywheel lock, socket and breaker bar then remove the flywheel. Then you have to remove the guide tube by removing its bolts. In the tube you would see the main shaft seal which is to be punched by a screwdriver and a hole is made.

 Then by the screwdriver, you have to pull the seal out and clean that place well. Then a new seal is installed to that place. Also, re-place the worn guide tube.

 Check the pivot pins and the throw-out pivot arm piece and lubricate them.

 Check and replace the intermediate shaft bearing. Then fix a good flywheel in its place. If it is not faulty, then you don’t have to change it. But use new bolts instead of the old, rusted bolts. Tighten the bolts by the torque wrench.

 The clutch alignment tool is placed at the center of the pilot bearing. The clutch disc and then the pressure plate is installed on the flywheel.

 Use new bolts on the pressure plate and tighten them by wrenches. Then the alignment tool is removed.

 Get your slave cylinder backup light switch and the driveshafts reinstalled. Also get the clutch system bleed.

Conclusion

Follow the procedure steps to get your clutch repaired. If you can’t, then get your car to Porsche service center to get the job done in less time.
