A few days ago, we learned from Cadillac officials that the first pure electric SUV Lyriq will be officially debuted in China at the Shanghai Auto Show opening on April 19. The new vehicle will be the first production vehicle built by GM's new modular pure electric architecture, positioned as a mid-sized SUV, between XT5 (4813mm) and XT6 (5050mm), and will be equipped with the new Ultium battery pack, which can provide about 482km of pure electric range. In addition, the new will be officially launched in 2022.

Cadillac's pure electric SUV Lyriq debuted a combination of technology and texture

On the exterior, Cadillac Lyriq adopts a new minimalist design language, which is also the foundation of the design direction of the future models of the Cadillac brand, including the front face equipped with a sharp-edged irregular "black crystal" center mesh, the shape is extremely unique, embedded with LED devices matrix grid (support dynamic light language effect), and then With the large inflow ports and an array of textures on both sides, it is a style that is not angry; and the slender vertical headlight clusters on both sides are also cleverly integrated into the grille, further enhancing the visual feeling of the front.

Coming to the side, the whole car adopts a sliding design, with the roof from the B-pillar to the rear of the car in a downward trend, and the shape is dynamic and fashionable; while the lower waistline is crisscrossed and constructed by lines with countless surfaces, which can present different effects under the light of different angles; and in detail, there is also an LED light strip at the front wing version, which further strengthens the presence of the waistline.

At the rear, there is also a spoiler that curves upward slightly at the rear window, with a strong sense of design; and the extremely unique shaped split taillight cluster is a sight to behold, with matrix LED technology that can support multiple lighting modes. Body dimensions, the new car's length will be between the Cadillac XT5 (4813mm) and XT6 (5050mm), the specific amount is still to be announced in the future.

Andrew Smith, Executive Director of Global Cadillac Design, said, " Lyriq represents the next iteration of the brand's style, an electrifying technology that only Cadillac can express. Inside and out, Lyriq is a thoughtful integration of design and technology designed to make every drive an occasion."

On the interior, the biggest highlight of the new vehicle is a 33-inch curved OLED display with integrated navigation, entertainment system, lighting control, HUD head-up display settings and the newly developed "Super Cruiser" driver assistance system of GM Group, etc. The screen can also be divided into three areas The screen can also be divided into three areas to display different information. Officials said the screen is the largest resolution in the automotive industry, 64 times that of any vehicle, which can bring an amazing in-car experience.

In terms of operation, the screen supports touch operation, but also through the knob control below the center to switch between information and entertainment systems; in addition, in the previously announced information, the Lyriq concept car also has a display screen for passengers in the rear.

In addition, the new vehicle is equipped with a dual-plane reality-enhanced flat-screen display (HUD), which can display speed, navigation, and various types of information, and can be combined with the "Super Cruiser" system to achieve more powerful and practical driving assistance. Notably, the new vehicle also features a new road noise cancellation technology for the first time, with more microphones and accelerometers to detect the frequency range of tire air cavity noise, and then reverse the noise cancellation to bring a quiet cabin experience.

The Lyriq will be built on GM's new electric modular platform and use a new Ultium power cell with a capacity of 100kW-h, providing a pure electric range of more than 482km, while the charging system supports 150kW DC high-speed fast charging and 19kW standard charging. In addition, the new vehicle provides rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions for consumers to choose from.

It is reported that the Ultium battery system uses the latest nickel-cobalt-manganese-aluminum (NCMA) chemistry, which uses aluminum in the cathode, thereby reducing the need for rare earth materials such as cobalt. Compared with other current batteries, the new battery requires 70 percent less cobalt, while the battery electronics are integrated directly into the module, eliminating nearly 90 percent of the battery pack wiring.

In addition, the Lyriq will be produced at the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant, which will focus on electric vehicle production efforts in the future. In the future, GM will also develop pure electric midsize SUVs based the Lyriq's platform for the Chevrolet and Buick brands.
