6:43.300 Porsche 911 GT 2 RS sets new Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record
New Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record

With the 911 GT 2 RS equipped with Man-they performance components, Porsche set a new production car record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife with a lap length of 20.8 kilometres. In the presence of a notary, Porsche development driver Lars Kern set a best time of 6:43.300 on June 14 in the 515 kW (700 PS) 911 GT 2 RS. The new high-performance components are part of the result of close cooperation between the Porsche experts at the development center in Issachar and the Man-they Nordschleife specialists in Spathe. The new high-performance components are partly the result of close cooperation between Porsche experts at the Issachar Development Cent re and the Man-they North Ring experts at Spathe.

Breaks previous production car record by 4.747 seconds
The plan is to break the previous road model record of 6:48.047. Kern, together with the 911 GT 2 RS, accomplished this task with flying colors, shaving 4.747 seconds off the record. The tires were the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R and the average speed was 185.87 km/h.
"Our GT owners often drive their cars on the track, for example for track days," said Dr. Frank-Stiffen Wallis er, Vice President Product Line Porsche 911 and 718, "and Porsche worked with Man they s engineers to develop a perfectly tuned component that enables the 911 GT 2 RS to perform even better." Lars Kern, who managed to break the record despite the high summer temperatures, which reached 41 degrees Celsius on the track, said, "The 911 GT 2 RS with Man-they performance components is like glue on the track, especially in the high-speed corners, where you even feel like you're driving a real race car. It brakes amazingly well and is very easy to control."

Components precisely matched to each other
The Man-they Performance Package from Porsche Accessories includes chassis, aerodynamic and braking system components developed specifically for the 911 GT 2 RS. It also includes the lightweight magnesium wheels from the Issachar kit. "The individual components in the Performance Package are precisely matched to each other and the effect is only fully revealed when they are all installed. Therefore, the kit is currently only available as a whole. The sale of the individual components is currently under evaluation." Alexander Fa-big, Vice President of Conversationalist and Classic Cars at Porsche Worldwide, explains.

The first thing that catches the eye is the aerodynamic package, with two additional spoilers on either side of the front bumper, a carbon fiber under body and additional deflector elements in the front wheel area combining to increase down force on the front axle. At 200 km/h, down force on the front axle increases from 49 kg to 70 kg; with the redesigned rear wing, improved rear diffuse and wheel fairings, down force on the rear axle also jumps from 93 kg to 200 kg at the same speed," said Nicolas Reader, Managing Director of Man-they-Racing. "We are very proud that Lars Kern was able to drive in such a way to successfully improve the lap times of the 911 GT 2 RS, thanks also to the hog high-performance components that were developed together with Porsche and optimized in many areas."
Porsche and Man-they, who have both been involved in motor sport for many years
The track-tuned chassis relies on the invaluable experience of Porsche and Man-they in the field of motor sport. The adjustable front dampers are available in three different settings and the adjustable rear dampers are available in four preset options. Special racing brake pads with Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCB) reduce fade while improving, responsiveness and irreconcilability. Steel brake pipes ensure more direct pedal feedback. The 20-inch front and 21-inch rear magnesium wheels reduce the overall weight of the car by 11.4 kg and are available in Bright Silver, Black, Satin Gold and Satin Platinum.

The new spray-cooled sub-tank increases the total volume of cooling water in the inter-cooler by around nine liters, thereby increasing the refill intervals. According to Andrea Preminger, Porsche Vice President and Head of the GT line, "With these newly developed components, we have made an already outstanding sports car even better. Especially at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the 911 GT 2 RS with Man performance components is perfect for customers who are keen to drive on the track. A full lap time of 6:43.300 is equivalent to the previous 6:38.835 by short track standards, which is quite convincing."
