Because the normal brake systems are fully manual, they depend on the actions of the drivers to make the vehicles stop to prevent collision. So, the need is such brake system which even act if the driver is unable to act with time. There is such system, known as brake assist system. The cars having the brake assist system do not have the advanced features in their brake system. Instead, then have the normal braking system and a system which controls your brakes when in need.
The brake assist system helpful mainly during the emergency cases. Many times the drivers are unable to notice some things which are nearly about to collide with their car, or they fail to react immediately or their car have some braking issues. In this cases, the cars hit with other vehicles or pedestrians or any obstacles, leading to the damage of the exterior of the car and also lead to injure the people sometimes. So to prevent such problems, the brake assist system is used in cars now a days. The brake assist system makes the application of more force to the brake pads when the car is more likely to hit with other things even if you haven't pressed the brake pedal properly. This system detects the distance between your vehicle and other cars and realizes that there is more chances off collision. Then it acts immediately to make the car stop as soon as possible.

Low brake fluid
If the brake fluid is too low, then you would not be able to make the brake assist work properly as the brake system would lack pressure.
Connection faults
The brake assist is controlled electrically, so any fault or loose connection cannot make the brake assist monitor and work properly.
Brake booster faults
The brake boosters make the impact of your force on the brake rotors high due to which you force at the brake pedals make the car stop. If these boosters are faulty, then the brake assist would have to work too hard.
