Honda City Facelift: What to Expect from the Upcoming Launch
The long-awaited release of the updated Honda City is finally here, with the car starting to arrive at dealerships ahead of its official launch on March 2, 2023. Excitement is building, as test drives of the new model will be available from March 3, with deliveries following shortly after. Let's take a closer look at the features and changes that have been made to this popular sedan.
Honda City Facelift Offers Two New Variants and More Features
One of the major updates for the Honda City is the availability new variants of both petrol and strong-hybrid powertrains. Styling has been refreshed with mildly updated changes on the outside. The front and rear bumpers have been redesigned, with higher-spec models sporting unique grille inserts. The City facelift will also come with new 16-inch alloy wheels for the top-end variants, while the mid-spec models will retain the 15-inch wheels.
Styling Tweaks for the Refreshed Honda City
While the cosmetic updates are minor, the addition of a new Obsidian Blue paint option provides a fresh look for the exterior. Inside, the City facelift retains its existing layout, upholstery, and switchgear. However, buyers can now choose from a new entry-level SV trim for the petrol version with a 5-speed manual gearbox, or three higher trims (V, VX, and ZX) with the option of a CVT automatic. The hybrid version now also comes with a new entry-level VX trim, bringing the total number of trims to two for this more fuel-efficient and tech-savvy variant.
Enhanced Safety and Connectivity Features in the Updated Honda City
As the update rolls out, the City petrol model will now come equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) on higher trims, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and autonomous emergency braking. Previously, these features were only available on the City Hybrid. Along with ADAS, the Honda City boasts an array of safety features such as six airbags, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), rain-sensing wipers, ambient lighting, wireless charging, and wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Honda City Facelift: Petrol-Only Sedan with Powerful Hybrid Option
The upcoming Honda City facelift will be exclusively powered by a 121hp, 1.5-liter petrol engine, available with a 6-speed manual or CVT automatic gearbox. The hybrid variant will feature a 126hp, Atkinson Cycle 1.5-liter petrol-hybrid powertrain paired with an e-CVT transmission. This makes the Honda City the only car in its segment to offer a strong-hybrid powertrain. Both petrol and hybrid powertrains will be upgraded to meet the RDE norms, as well as E20 compliance. However, there will be no diesel engine option due to RDE norms. With its powerful petrol and hybrid engine options, the updated Honda City promises a dynamic driving experience.
Anticipate a slightly higher cost for the updated version of City, known as City facelift. It will remain a competitor to other popular models such as Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Virtus, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and Hyundai Verna. In fact, Hyundai Verna is also due to introduce a new generation model in the near future.
