Visiting Billings Montana

Vacationing in Montana

View of Downtown Billings Montana

I recently visited Billings Montana to see Garth Brooks in concert and take in a few other sites and locations. First and foremost the concert was awesome, just like his show I went to in Vegas years ago. This show was at the Metra, which hosts other venues as well. During my stay, I also went to a car show and a rodeo as well as one other concert. This facility also hosts dog shows for the dog lover in you, however, there weren't any shows scheduled during my visit. The Metra is set up with rolling hills around it and is close to Yellowstone River, which I have heard from the locals is a good place to go for fishing and quiet time.

I am not an avid fisher but brought it up for those who are and may want to check it out if visiting Billings. There is also Lake Elmo for the boaters and family fun as well as various water parks.

Being that I enjoy Native American culture and history, I first visited a pictograph park which has trails leading up to caves in the bluffs. It was interesting to see the pictures drawn by Native Americans in the area long before the "White Man" showed up. The folks at the information center really knew their stuff and are well educated for any questions asked. I also visited the Moss Mansion which was built in 1901 and is beautifully decorated and restored for all to see. The volunteers who work at the Moss Mansion have really done their homework with the history and also provide guided tours. I would highly recommend the Moss Mansion (for those who like history) and the pictograph trails for those who enjoy learning about Native American history. For the trails, it is best to visit in May or June when the weather isn't so hot and humid.

For families visiting the Billings area, there are water parks to take the kids to. Several are The Reef Indoor Waterpark, Oasis, and Miles From Thommorowland Water Park. The Reef and Oasis are, according to Google, the two favorited parks to take the kids to. Wise wonders Children Museum is a great place to take kids who enjoy adventure as well as an educational experience while on vacation in Billings. Other Museums to visit while here are Yellowstone County Museum, Western Heritage Center and Yellowstone Art Museum. I had the pleasure of visiting the Yellowstone Art Museum and had a wonderful time viewing the pieces in which this facility has on display. Just a short walk from the Art Museum is a small park dedicated to the men and women in blue who have lost their lives in the line of duty, if you would like to take a stroll and view the names on the wall.

Billings also has nice little shops in the downtown area for the shopper in you. The ones in which I visited during my stay are Aspinwall Mountain Wear, Bottega Clothing, and Savvy Secounds. These three are awesome shops in which I had the pleasure of visiting while in Billings but there are many other shops in the Downtown area for the avid shopper to visit. Billings also has Rimrock Mall located at 300 S. 24th St for those who would like to venture to the westside of town and have a look around. While walking through the downtown shops, why not enjoy a good cup o, joy or cold iced tea? The favorites are Starbucks and City Brew, however if one wants to venture out and try a new coffee shop, Billings also has Mazevo Coffee Roasters, Big Sky Coffee Roasters, and Rock Creek Coffee Roasters. As with restaurants and bars, there are a wide array of coffee shops in Billings to visit and try at least once.

Billings has proven to be an interesting town to visit with so much to do for the single person as well as adventures for the family. If given the time to do so, a nice drive to Yellowstone National Park to see the wild life would be an adventure to take. If not, then a short drive through the neighborhoods on the west end of town will occasionally bless a person with the presence of deer.
