The Problem With Living in Maryland
I am from Maryland and Living in Maryland and its been a problem.
I was born in Silver Spring, Maryland and lived in Maryland for 30 years of my life. Currently, I live in Germantown, Maryland, where I live at is not so bad, there are some shopping centers around the area including a Walmart and Target side by side towards each other, a Germantown library, and a local theatre next door for live music events.
I live rent free due to the fact that I don’t have a job since the job market in Germantown is dreadful and hard to find even when you are unemployed looking for work.

I had my ups and downs living in Maryland for 30 years living around the Montgomery County area and outside of the Montgomery County. Maryland faces economic challenges like sluggish growth, a shallow labor pool, and high housing costs, leading to affordability issues and out-migration, alongside environmental concerns like climate change impacts (flooding, ghost forests) and health issues like heart disease; residents prioritize cost of living, taxes, healthcare, education, and public safety, while the state grapples with budget gaps and housing shortages which no surprise to me since I live in Maryland.
Housing in MD
Housing has been a huge issue in Maryland due to their high cost and issues in their homes. For instance, before we were in a low income housing, Me and my family were living until we were living in between homeless shelters and living in hotels. What ticks me off in MD?? Maryland is building homes, apartments, and stores however the prices are expensive when it comes for rental or buying a home. Yet people are outside in Maryland homeless sleeping in the streets.
According to the Maryland Patch.com, Maryland is an unpopular place to live in. The Southeast leads the list of states that the most people are moving to, led by Florida and Texas. The U-Haul Growth Index for 2025 is compiled from well over 2.5 million annual one-way transactions across the U.S. and Canada. The rankings are determined by an analysis of one-way customer transactions during 2025. While rankings may not correlate directly to population or economic growth, the U-Haul index is a gauge of how well states, metros and cities are attracting and maintaining residents, the company claims.“We continue to find that life circumstances — marriage, children, a death in the family, college, jobs and other events — dictate the need for most moves,” said John “J.T.” Taylor, U-Haul International president. “But other factors can be important to people who are looking to change their surroundings. In-migration states are often appealing to those customers.” Few Americans chose to move to Maryland in 2025. The state ranked No. 45 as a move-in state last year, down three slots from No. 42 in 2024 which doesn't surprise me none. Meanwhile, one Virginia city ranked among the top 15 for growth cities. Fredericksburg was the No. 13 U-Haul growth city for its net gain of one-way customers. That rank is a move up two slots from a year ago. Conversely, Virginia overall ranked 36th for people moving into a state, falling 19 places from a year ago.The city of Ocala, Florida, retained the title of No. 1 U-Haul growth city, a distinction it also held for 2024 and 2022, the moving company said.Maryland's economy has been sluggish since the end of 2016 and has experienced a slow recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Businesses had experiences some closures including the Lakeforest Mall, the once popular mall turned to dead mall.
Here's my story on my last time wandering around the Lakeforest Mall:
So far, living in MD is just plain bland there are some certain cities within the MD area like Bethesda, parts of Baltimore, somewhat of Frederick and Hagerstown, and Silver Spring. Gaithersburg and Germantown is diverse but bland to live at if you like living boring.
So if you are thinking about living in MD, think again!
If you are from Maryland and don't like what you read on this article, feel free to say what you want to say.
