Tadiandmol Trek – My Slow Walk to the Highest Peak of Coorg

What followed was a journey filled with quiet forests, open grasslands, tired smiles, and moments where I simply stopped walking to breathe it all in.

Some treks challenge your body. Some calm your mind. The Tadiandmol Trek did both for me.

I had read that Tadiandmol trek is the highest peak in Coorg, but standing there with a backpack on my shoulders, early morning mist around me, I wasn’t thinking about height or records. I was just hoping the weather would stay kind and my legs would cooperate.

What followed was a journey filled with quiet forests, open grasslands, tired smiles, and moments where I simply stopped walking to breathe it all in.

Reaching the Base Village: Coffee Estates, Narrow Roads, and a Late Start

We started from Coorg early in the morning and drove towards Kakkabe, the base village for the Tadiandmol trek. The drive itself was beautiful — misty roads, coffee plantations on both sides, and that fresh hill air that instantly lifts your mood.

But we made a small mistake. We assumed the roads would be smooth and underestimated the travel time. Narrow roads and morning fog slowed us down, and we reached the trek starting point a bit later than planned.

After parking the vehicle and getting basic information, we finally began the trek. The sun was already out, but the cool air made walking comfortable.

The First Part of the Tadiandmol Trek: Forest Paths and Easy Confidence

The initial trail of the Tadiandmol Trek passes through forest sections and open paths. The walk felt easy at first. Birds were chirping, leaves crunched under our shoes, and everything smelled fresh after light rain from the previous night.

We walked confidently, talking and laughing, thinking this trek would be simple. That confidence didn’t last long.

As the incline increased, my breathing became heavier. I realized I had packed an extra jacket that I didn’t really need, and the weight slowly started bothering my shoulders. Small mistakes feel bigger when you’re walking uphill.

When the Climb Gets Steeper: Tired Legs, Strong Sun, and Silent Focus

After crossing the forest, the trail opened into wide grasslands. The view suddenly changed — rolling green hills, open skies, and distant valleys. It looked beautiful, but the climb here was steady and long.

The sun came out strong, and the wind disappeared for a while. Sweat dripped, legs felt heavy, and conversations slowly faded. Everyone was walking in their own rhythm, focusing on each step.

We took short breaks — sitting on rocks, sipping water, and enjoying the views. Every time I looked back, the landscape looked more rewarding, reminding me why the effort was worth it.

Reaching Tadiandmol Peak: Clouds, Wind, and a Quiet Sense of Joy

Reaching the Tadiandmol peak felt surreal. Clouds moved fast, sometimes covering the view, sometimes revealing layers of green hills below. The wind was strong and cold, instantly cooling down our tired bodies.

There was no loud celebration. We stood quietly, taking photos, sharing snacks, and simply enjoying the moment. Standing on the highest point in Coorg gave me a deep sense of satisfaction — not because of the height, but because of the journey.

The sound of wind, the smell of grass, and the sight of endless hills made time slow down.

Descending and Winding Down: Sore Knees, Smiles, and Warm Food

The descent was easier on the lungs but harder on the knees. By now, tiredness had fully settled in. We walked carefully, joking about how “going down is actually harder.”

After completing the trek, we headed back to our homestay. Hot food waited for us — rice, curry, and simple local dishes. That meal tasted amazing, probably because we had earned it.

Staying in Coorg is easy, with many budget homestays and guesthouses available near Kakkabe and Madikeri.

Practical Tips from My Tadiandmol Trek Experience

Best time to visit Tadiandmol: October to February is ideal. Avoid heavy monsoon if you’re a beginner.

How to reach: Drive to Kakkabe from Madikeri, then walk to the trek start point.

Budget: The trek is budget-friendly. Major expenses are travel, stay, and food.

What to carry: Good trekking shoes, enough water, light snacks, cap, and minimal luggage.
