This place has a lot to offer.

By Carlos FoxPublished 7 years ago 3 min read

Thanks to social media, you know more about your friends’ vacations than you ever wanted. Your timeline is inundated with serene sceneries and delectable exotic foods from all over the globe.

It’s only natural to want to explore the world that lies beyond your national boundaries. If you’re planning a getaway for the near future, then you should consider a destination less traveled. If you’ve already made the lauded trip to the tropics and are disenchanted with the hustle and bustle of big cities, then it’s time to switch gears.

The next time you make a temporary escape from the day to day grind, you should consider going to the old country. Continue reading to see just what Sussex, England has to offer vacationers.

Lodging

There are definitely nice hotels to be found in Sussex, but haven’t you had enough of those already? So skip the continental breakfast, pillow mints, and turn-down service and live like a local.

Sussex holiday cottages are the perfect way to get the real feel of the old country. You can have all of the comforts of home while enjoying all of the leisure of a getaway. Save money on dining out by preparing your own home-cooked meals. Add some intrigue to your meals by preparing popular English dishes. In addition, living like a local presents you with the opportunity to get to know the actual locals and even build lasting relationships.

You can choose your amenities just like when you’re scouting for a home to live in. You can rent a lakefront if you’re into fishing and watersports, or you can opt for a more secluded cottage if you want to go hiking or hunting. If you want to be close to shopping and other attractions, opt for a more urban area.

Activities

The most important part of any vacation is what you will do while you’re away. Even though it isn’t one of the more talked about travel destinations, there is plenty to do in Sussex for both locals and tourists alike.

If you’re an aficionado of the arts, then Southeast England is the place to be. The Brighton Festival takes place every May and brings together some of England’s most innovative performers and purveyors of the arts. In fact, it is one of the most popular festivals of the arts in all of Europe.

While you’re there, don’t miss out on the variety of things to see and do in Brighton, one of the crown jewels of England. Spend a day at the Royal Pavilion learning about the rich history of the area. Enjoy a local brew at the British Airways i360—a pill-shaped, glass pod that rises to 450 feet in the air and offers a panoramic view that stretches for miles.

Not far away, the Brighton Marina offers premier shopping and gourmet dining. You can try some of those famous British dishes, or if you want something closer to home, you can pick up some fresh coffee just like your coffee club offers back home.

Make a tradition of it.

Everyone needs rest, relaxation, and a change of scenery once in a while. When you find a destination that works for you and your family, stick with it! The best part about enjoying Sussex like a local is that you get to discover things to do that are off the beaten path. Add some variety to your trip each time to keep it fresh, fun, and familiar all at once.

With so much to see and do there, and with it being only an hour from London, Sussex is a great place to make an annual family vacation tradition.
