Botanical Gardens

St. Louis, MO is known for so many things. The Gateway Arch is a major attraction, and of course baseball season brings the rumble of tourism to the pavement. There is so much more natural beauty attached to the city that many never get to experience. I was born and raised in St. Louis, and one thing that I have always been drawn to is the beauty of our parks. So many beautiful flowers and trees lining the boarders of the hard pavement, a sea of color flowing, existing in harmony. There are so many nooks of natural beauty surrounding this amazing city. So, join me on a walk through the park!

Lafayette Park

Lafayette Park was dedicated in 1851 as one of the first public parks, and by far one of the largest of its time, in the City of St. Louis, Missouri. It is actually considered to be the oldest urban park west of the Mississippi. It is 30 acres and is one of the most frequented parks in the city by dog lovers. Much of the fencing and the gates that surround the park are the originals. So much history exists in the quaint area. This park is absolutely amazing and offers a feeling of relaxation when you enter. There are walking paths throughout the park and so much scenery. Lafayette Park is known to be one of the most popular places for wedding photo shoots in the area.

The Botanical Gardens

Founded in 1859, the Missouri Botanical Garden is the nation's oldest botanical garden in continuous operation and a National Historic Landmark. The Garden has played a role in much of the education for botany and horticulture as it is a center for botanical research and science education. There are 79 acres of beautiful horticultural displays in the gardens, including a 14-acre Japanese strolling garden, and one of the world's largest collections of rare and endangered orchids. I remember when my mother passed away I was going to the gardens almost daily. The air is so much sweeter, and calmer there. It was so majestic I could not help but pull out my camera. Everywhere you turn is a picture of beauty. The landscapes boast some of the rarest finds. Sounds of nature surround you as you stroll the many pathways. There is even a gift shop that allows you to take a little bit of nature home with you.

Tower Grove Park

Tower Grove Park is one of only seven National Historic Landmark Parks. There are tennis courts, fields, and miles of trails. In the summer months there are sounds of reunions and families bonding over barbeque and games. Kids run and play, enjoying the fountain and splash pad to cool off. The park is host to many cultural events such as the International Institute's Festival of Nations, Sauce Food Truck Friday, and Tower Grove Farmers’ Market! There are free concerts from the St. Louis Symphony and Compton Heights Community Band. Along with being a true community resource, it offers huge environmental benefits with the vast array of trees and foliage. You can easily come across beautiful and unique migrating bird species, and we cannot forget the beautiful Monarch Butterflies.

There were so many days that I would come to the park and just sit, watching people feed the ducks. It was such positive energy filled with laughter. The artists would come out with their easels capturing the near perfect images. I would often walk the trails capturing the most unique images on my camera. The landscape brings so much opportunity for creativity. I also enjoy the opportunity to get away. With the hustle and bustle of families there are still always quiet and serene corners of the park that offer opportunities to simply relax.

I hope that you have enjoyed your walk in the park via St. Louis, MO. Take your time and enjoy the views. Watch the trees dance and if you're brave join in! I know that I do!
