If you got:

Mostly A you got SANTA TERESA, COSTA RICA

Image by Florencia Bluthgen from Pixabay

A gorgeous, laid back coastal town for beach bums, nature lovers and surfers. It’s a surfers paradise from gentler beginners waves at Playa Hermosa to more powerful waves for the seasoned surfer at Playa Santa Teresa. Chose to chill on the white sand beaches, pop over to Tortuga island for a spot of snorkelling or head out for a wildlife adventure at the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve. This place has a little bit of everything.

Mostly B you got LAGO DE ATITLAN, GUATEMALA

An incredible endorheic lake set in a volcanic basin in the highlands of Guatemala. This beautiful Lake is perfect for lovers of adventure and nature alike. There are hikes galore, for spectacular views of the lakes and their surrounding villages and volcanoes, do a sunrise hike to the “Indian Nose” viewpoint. For culture lovers, don’t forget to visit Chici market to peruse local pottery, hand-woven textiles, and traditional clothing. And of course, don’t forget to get into the Lake itself for a swim or a paddleboard!

Mostly C you got SAN JUAN DEL SUR, NICARAGUA

Colourful and fun! The town is dotted with murals and bright colours that reflect the party atmosphere. San Juan Del Sur is known for “Sunday Funday,” a pool party pun crawl. Suppose you prefer the quieter side to life, then there plenty of yoga classes and retreats for you to chill out at as well as the beach of course. If you’d like a balance, there are always catamaran rides and cocktails! Nicaragua is a great budget destination in Central America, and many travelers refer to it as “Costa Rica 20 years ago”.

Final Thoughts

All three places offer unique nature, fun activities, and fabulous food. I would challenge anyone not to enjoy themselves in tropical Central America.

Of course, these aren’t the only options; there are so many beautiful places in Central America to travel to and to live in. These are examples to think about what’s important to you in terms of activities, food, and nightlife, to name a few.

If you would like to look at these places in more detail and have access to all sorts of metrics to compare locations, I highly recommend the Nomad List website.
