UK Dependent Visa is specifically designed for the family members who are applying or have visas under the Points-Based-System such as Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 4 Student or Till 5 categories. This is particularly formulated for family members of the applicants with a Skilled Worker Visa or Points Based System. University employees under the Global Talent Visa, Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 5 visa are allowed to apply to bring their family to the UK as their dependents. For applicants under the Points Based System(PBS), the Immigration Rules define the term dependants as-

● Wife, Husband, or Civil Partner.

● Same-Sex partners or unmarried individuals.

● Child aged under 18 at the time of filling the application.

Applying For A Dependent Visa

A dependent visa can be obtained from both within or outside the UK. If an applicant is applying from within the UK, they should not be holding a visitor visa of any kind. If they are holding such visas, then they must leave and apply from outside the UK. If the individual is within the UK and holds any other type of visa, they have the option to switch to a dependent visa.

One of the major reasons for people going abroad is to give their families a better standard of living. The Dependent Visa here works as a powerful tool created by countries to help families live together. It allows students, professionals, permanent residents and others to bring their family that is in a different country to their new home country. It can be a difficult and confusing process but with proper research situations like this can be tackled too.

Two Types of Dependent Visa

Temporary Visas are applicable for the holders of the following visas like Work, Student, Fiancé, intra-company transfer. Whereas Permanent Visas are particularly designed for the spouses or children below the age of 18-21 years old.

Partners/Spouses on temporary dependent visas are allowed to work within rights based on their validity in most of the countries, except the USA. Dependents who are granted Permanent Residence Visas have their right to study, live and work as long as they remain permanent residents.
