Journal Entries for Self Discovery - Day 3

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Hello, and welcome to day three. If you're new, I might suggest going back to read my first two posts... or not. I am keeping a (public) journal to try the 30 days of self-discovery and giving my opinions on these entries just to give other people an idea of if they are actually helpful or not. Thank you again for following along! My quote for the day is; "To write means more than putting pretty words on a page; the act of writing is to share a part of your soul with the world."

DAY THREE: IF YOU COULD GO ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO?

This is kind of a tough topic for me because I would go everywhere. I've had the desire to travel the world since I was young. I even used to tell my dad that instead of going to college I was going to take out a bunch of loans and travel and learn that way instead. I still want to travel. I've been a few places; Columbia, Canada, Mexico... a couple others. I've been to most of the fifty states. I accidentally attended an Indian wedding ceremony once, which was extremely cool. I'm a big concert junkie and I've been to Country Thunder. I grew up near Chicago, so I've been to Lollapalooza. However, I would really like to go to Burning Man. It's something I've wanted to do since I learned about when I was in high school. I've always wanted to backpack across countries. The real way, not staying in hotels and seeing only the fancy side of things. Staying in hostels and visiting the real parts of the countries, not the tourist places. My dad always talked about Switzerland and how beautiful it was. He bragged about seeing the mountains and I know he was trying to broaden my idea of the world but I was always so jealous listening to him talk about it. I would love to go there. Australia has always been another desire of mine. I'm not sure why but the idea of going to a country that is basically made up of criminals and their descendants has always kind of made it feel like I would belong. Plus, Sydney seems like a really cool place to visit. Who wouldn't want to see the setting of Finding Nemo? Just kidding. My ex-girlfriend used to talk to me about France.

She always told me that when I go, I can't just visit Paris because "Paris n'est pas l'expérience complète; juste une belle partie (Paris is not the full experience; just a beautiful part)." But, I do want to see Paris and go to the Eiffel Tower. I know it's touristy but it's also supposed to be the most romantic place in the world. I want to get stoned on the beaches of Amsterdam. I don't care how cliche that is. I want to drink in a real Irish pub and see the countryside that is supposed to be gorgeous. I want to spend the Day of the Dead in Mexico and be in New Orleans for Mardi Gras. I want to get lost in a Bamboo forest in Japan. I want to go to South Africa and track the elephants for a month or two. I really want to go to England and talk to J.K. Rowling but I think that's a little different dream. I want to see the seven wonders of the world...But mostly, I want to see and experience as much as I can. I want to learn every new language that I come in contact with and I want to see it all because it reminds me that the world is so big and vast. It reminds me that I am not contained in one place and there is so much more than just myself out there. I love to travel but if I had to pick just one place to go for free, I don't know if I would be able to decide. It would take me an extremely long time. And a lot of pros and cons lists. If I could travel anywhere in the world, I would travel everywhere. I would never stay in the same place.

My thoughts: I loved this question. Like I REALLY loved this question. I am huge on wanting to travel. My wallet restricts me more than I care to admit but I have so many traveling desires. It really made me look at where I want to go and what exactly I need to put on my bucket list. It made me think about the world around me. I feel like it really forces us to look at our desires. I know not everyone is going to have the same answer as me to this question and I think that's what makes it so beautiful. It really makes you look at where you desire to be. Also, it really made me think about who I wanted to travel with. When I was writing about each place I want to visit, I pictured myself there with someone. Overall, I think it's a great question for self-discovery.
