Pasikuda is known to be one of the safest beach destinations in Sri Lanka. It is far from the other beaches you might be used to and is located in the eastern part of the country. This place is a must-visit and here is how you can plan an amazing trip to Pasikuda.

The Pasikuda Bay

Needless to say, this beach is one of the biggest attractions in this area. The place is known for its serene tides all throughout the year and the bay is also pretty shallow. Meaning, you can walk or wade out into the sea for miles without worrying about strong currents. The beach also has the longest stretch of the coastline in the world. You can take a dip below the surface and you will be welcomed with the sights of the magnificent coral reef that comes complete with the budding ecosystem in the area.

Kalkudah Bay Beach

No visit to Pasikuda is complete without visiting the Kalkudah Bay Beach. It is located a bit to the south of the bay and is an equally wonderful place, albeit a bit more deserted than Pasikuda Beach, which you might actually love. If you are someone who likes lonely beaches then this is the place for you. The Kalkudah Bay Beach is a long and broad shoreline. It is much wider and less developed than the previous attraction of this article. But because it is so deserted all the time people love to spend days lounging around this beach. You can find many Pasikuda hotels in the area that are located right in between both these beaches, for instance, Uga. The sea here is quite rough compared to the previous beach, but it is still manageable if you can swim like an amateur.

Activities to do while you are here

Though some people like to just lounge around and laze away under the sunshine during a beach holiday, others also like to fill their holidays with activities and water sports. You can do a mix of both to get the best from both the worlds, so keep a couple of days aside where you just lounge by the swimming pool or the beach while you do nothing and the next few days of your trip, you can take part in water sports activities like windsurfing. You can go deep-sea diving to take a look at all the marine species and coral in the waters too.

The Dutch fort

Take a walk back in time and visit the Dutch fort. Built-in the 17th century this Dutch Fort might not be as big and grand as the one in Galle, but right now it is home to a few government offices and also has a Buddhist temple that dates back to the first century before Christ.

Whale Watching

While this is a bit away from Pasikuda, whale watching in Trincomalee; around one hundred kilometres away, is a surreal experience that brings you up and close to the majestic and regal creatures of the sea. Not just whales, visitors are guaranteed to catch glimpses of even dolphins frolicking around in the water. Trincomalee borders the whale migration routes which take place between the months of March and August, so plan your trip around these months. Expect to feast your eyes on the blue whale, sperm whale as well as spinner dolphins. If you are travelling to Pasikuda with young ones, this is an activity that you definitely must add to your list of things to do on your holiday by the beach in Sri Lanka.
