Not far from boutique hotels in Bentota, the Kande Viharya is a highly venerated Buddhist temple that goes back to the 1700s. There are devotees visiting the temple every day to worship and take part in religious activities. But the main attraction here is the massive statue of Lord Buddha. You'll see that people bring lotus flowers to keep at the foot of the beautiful statue. There are frescoes and age-old sculpture you will be able to explore here. if you plan on visiting, remember to dress appropriately. Lunuganga

Lunuganga Estate was once the humble home of the popular Sri Lankan architect, Geoffrey Bawa. His home still stands today as an impressive piece of art that the country is proud of. The concept of tropical modernism was created by this man. It is evident his own house which is quite open and designed to be close to nature. The interiors are left the way he had wanted them to be with interesting furniture and soothing colour tones. The best part? Within the premises is the Lunuganga river itself.
