Brief Garden
This was the creation of the famed artist named Bewis Bawa who was the brother of equally renowned architect Geoffrey Bawa. A well-manicured garden is definitely a place that's worth your time. The garden spreads across 5 acres of land. There are various sculptures too hidden amongst the greens in the garden. Flowering plants have been places where the beauty of the flowers is best brought out. Once you enter, you'll find peace of mind with the sounds of the leaves rustling in the gentle breeze. Perfect for a relaxing evening with your loved one.
Madu Ganga
If you are a bird lover, then Madu River is a place that you can't miss out on when in Bentota. You could hitch a boat ride with a guide who will share detailed information about the beautiful environment here. The river is a hub of diversity, mangroves reach high in search of sunlight creating a lovely canopy for you to sail through. Among the branches of these mangrove trees are little birds singing their sweet songs? Look hard enough and you will spot a few rare species that have made the mangrove their home. Not just above, but below in the waters are also several species waiting to surprise you out of the blue. You'll spot the tail of a sneaky reptile moving somewhere in the waters for sure! Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Project
You've got to love the turtles of the seas! Visit Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Project and you are sure to have an experience of a lifetime here getting to know the creatures up close. The turtles here are protected in their natural habitat. You might even spot one or two of them making their nest in the sand. But that's not all! The stunning views of the sunset while the hatchlings make their way to catch the waves is definitely serene and is sure to leave you feeling calm and relaxed.
Kande Viharaya
Not far from boutique hotels in Bentota, the Kande Viharya is a highly venerated Buddhist temple that goes back to the 1700s. There are devotees visiting the temple every day to worship and take part in religious activities. But the main attraction here is the massive statue of Lord Buddha. You'll see that people bring lotus flowers to keep at the foot of the beautiful statue. There are frescoes and age-old sculpture you will be able to explore here. if you plan on visiting, remember to dress appropriately. Ladies should be dressed in clothing covering the shoulders and legs while men would be better off wearing long pants rather than shorts.
Lunuganga
Lunuganga Estate was once the humble home of the popular Sri Lankan architect, Geoffrey Bawa. His home still stands today as an impressive piece of art that the country is proud of. The concept of tropical modernism was created by this man. It is evident his own house which is quite open and designed to be close to nature. The interiors are left the way he had wanted them to be with interesting furniture and soothing colour tones. The best part? Within the premises is the Lunuganga river itself. This attraction is approximately 10 minutes away from holiday hotels like Saman Villas.
