How to Make the Most of a Trip to Victoria Peak in Hong Kong
Experience Victoria Peak like never before!
One of the biggest attractions for visitors to Hong Kong is Victoria Peak, the highest point in the city. This is not only a great place to see bird’s eye views of the city - there are plenty of other activities on offer as well! With hiking trails, restaurants and entertainment options such as Madame Tussauds, you can spend a whole day exploring!
Take the Peak Tram
There are many ways to reach the Peak. However, the most popular choice is taking the Peak Tram. Even though this is the more expensive travel option, you won’t be disappointed. The Peak Tram has been in operation for over 130 years and is one of the oldest funicular railways in the world. Though it tends to get crowded, the beautiful views you’ll see along the way are worth every penny. You can buy tickets at the lower station, or consider booking your tickets online in advance. Both single and return tickets are available. The Peak Tram is open every day from 7 am to midnight, and on public holidays.
If you’re on a budget, taking the number 15 bus to the Peak is a great option. If you’d rather get some exercise, walking is a great alternative. Just know that the Morning Trail is about 2800 meters long and mostly uphill, so remember to wear comfortable shoes.
Visit Victoria Peak Garden
Victoria Peak Garden was established in the colonial era, and is full of greenery and natural beauty. It has retained its charm and is now a well-loved spot for families and dog lovers. The park was once a private garden for the Governor's summer home and features shady pagodas and well-maintained lawns. It’s a great place to relax and admire the natural surroundings. Or, have a picnic with your friends or family after a long day.
Visitors travelling to the Peak can find a Hong Kong Hotel accommodation nearby. There are many great options such as Cosmo Hotel Hong Kong that offer family suites and are within walking distance of MTR networks that will take you to the top attractions in the city.
Sky Terrace 428
Sky Terrace 428 is one of the best locations to visit if you're looking for stunning views of the city. Climb to the top of the Peak Tower, which offers a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of Hong Kong's famous skyline. This is a fantastic place to capture some photographs as well. While the Peak Tower has many shops and restaurants, it is a popular tourist destination, so prices can be on the higher side. You can buy tickets for the Sky Terrace separately, or get a combo deal that includes a tram ticket.
Madame Tussauds
If you're looking for a fun activity to enjoy with kids, check out the Madame Tussauds wax museum at the Peak Tower. This incredible museum has a display of almost 100 lifelike wax figures of famous people from various fields, both local and international. You’ll find sports stars, personalities from history and politics, celebrities, artists, and many more! Visitors are free to take as many photos as they like, as there are no barriers around the figures.
The Peak Galleria Terrace
The third level of Peak Galleria Terrace is a top spot for shopping enthusiasts, and has a high-end shopping centre with luxury stores. The main attraction, however, is the beautiful views from the observation deck - where you can catch sight of Victoria Harbour and the iconic Hong Kong skyline. While this deck is at a lower elevation than the Sky Terrace, the views are just as impressive and it is less crowded. Or, relax in the garden area set with benches, where visitors can catch a breather.
Dining Options
Travellers will find many top dining options at Victoria Peak. One of these is Rajasthan Rifles, a unique restaurant that serves British and Indian cuisine. Drawing inspiration from the Anglo-Indian mess halls that served the British and Indian Armies, its menu items are diverse. The restaurant also offers outdoor seating, and it’s an ideal place to grab a quick bite or relax with a cocktail.
Pizza lovers can head to Wildfire Pizza, known for its delicious wood-fired, thin-crust pizzas. The restaurant’s design is another reason to visit, with its floor-to-ceiling glass windows providing beautiful views of the city. It is also a budget-friendly choice and is open for lunch and dinner.
One of the best noodle restaurants in Hong Kong is Mak’s Noodles. Famous for their wonton noodles, this is a great place to sample tasty noodle dishes and dumplings. Although the items are a little pricey, this is a Michelin-star restaurant, so you’re guaranteed a classy meal!
