How Can I Capture the Breathtaking View of the Hong Kong Skyline?
Get Ready to Be Mesmerised
Once you see Hong Kong’s enchanting skyline, your worries, concerns, and everyday strife will disappear for a moment – that’s how breathtakingly beautiful it is. This is why it should be a must-see on your Hong Kong itinerary. If you’re planning a visit, here’s how you can treat yourself to the stunning views of the Hong Kong skyline.
Victoria Peak and Tram
This is the most famous spot to see the skyline, so don’t expect it to be empty. Once you reach the peak, you’ll be over 500 metres above the ground, with views of the islands, the harbour, and the skyline all in one breathtaking picture. To get to the peak, you can take the Peak Tram, which has been running since 1888. The tram ride is part of the experience. Once at the top, make your way to Sky Terrace 428 for the best view. Arrive at sunset, and you’ll be rewarded with a magical scene.
Tsim Sha Tsui
There’s another spot that lets you soak in the magical beauty of the Hong Kong skyline. Located on the southern edge of Kowloon, Tsim Sha Tsui is a famous promenade that runs along much of the waterway. The view from here is spectacular, and it’s a great spot to watch the Symphony of Lights, a nightly light show hosted by the city. If you visit at night, you can enjoy the show as well, but even during the day, you’re in for an unforgettable experience. Plus, if you stay at one of the Tsim Sha Tsui hotels, the promenade is just a short walk away. For instance, Park Hotel Hong Kong is only five minutes from the promenade.
Sky100 Observation Deck
Imagine what it’s like to see the skyline from the highest observation deck in the city. Sky100 Observation Deck, located on the 100th floor of the International Commerce Centre (ICC), is the highest indoor observation deck in Hong Kong. The view from here is absolutely spectacular! From this vantage point, you can see everything that makes Hong Kong the tourist destination it is. Kowloon, the harbour, and the city itself look truly magical from the 100th floor of the ICC.
Star Ferry
Taking the Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour is a fantastic way to enjoy the skyline. In fact, some might say it’s the best way to do it. Although it’s a short trip, it gives you plenty of time to take in the skyline from across the water. If you opt for an evening ferry ride, you might even catch the night show.
Ocean Terminal Deck
Here’s another way to view the Hong Kong skyline: head to the Ocean Terminal Deck at Harbour City, a shopping mall. The deck is spacious and offers a great view of both the skyline and the harbour. Photographers love this spot because it allows them to capture wide-angle shots of the Hong Kong panorama. Visit in the evening as the sun is setting. When the golden light bathes the cityscape, the view is simply next level!
Kwun Tong Promenade
This isn’t the first place that comes to mind, but Kwun Tong Promenade offers a pretty good view of the skyline. What makes it even better is that it's a bit out of the way, so you can enjoy the skyline in peace, without the bustling crowds. Plus, the view from here is quite unique – you get to see the old buildings, which contrast beautifully with the modern skyscrapers. In the evening, it becomes truly enchanting.
Time It Right
For the best experience, timing is everything. If you’re an early riser, arrive before sunrise for clear, crisp views. When the city is bathed in the soft glow of the morning sun, everything changes, and it feels incredibly therapeutic. You can also visit in the evening at sunset. The orange glow of the setting sun casts a golden hue over the skyline, making it almost ethereal.
