For every trekking enthusiast, the Hampta Pass Trek is a perfect mix of adventure, breathtaking landscapes, and an exhilarating high-altitude experience. Nestled in the Pir Panjal range, this trek connects Manali’s lush Kullu Valley with the barren Spiti Valley. When my friends and I decided to embark on this journey, we knew we were in for an unforgettable adventure.

Starting the Journey – Manali to Jobra

Our adventure began in Manali, a bustling hill town filled with trekkers and backpackers. After gathering our gear and getting a quick briefing, we set off for Jobra, the trek’s starting point. The drive through pine forests and winding mountain roads was just a teaser of the beauty that awaited us.

Jobra to Chika – Into the Wilderness

The actual trekking began from Jobra, and within minutes, we were surrounded by towering deodar trees, pristine meadows, and gushing mountain streams. The trail was relatively easy, allowing us to soak in the sights and enjoy the refreshing mountain air. By evening, we reached Chika, our first campsite, nestled beside a serene river. As night fell, the sky lit up with a million stars—a sight that city life could never offer.

Chika to Balu Ka Ghera – The Gradual Ascent

The next morning, we resumed our trek towards Balu Ka Ghera, a valley named after the sand deposits left by glacial streams. The landscape changed dramatically—lush green meadows gave way to rugged terrain and snow patches. As we ascended, the cold winds intensified, making the trek more challenging. We camped here for the night, preparing ourselves for the toughest yet most rewarding part of the journey.

Conquering Hampta Pass – The Ultimate Challenge

The most awaited day had arrived—the ascent to Hampta Pass (4,270 meters). The climb was steep and demanded every ounce of energy, but the sense of achievement upon reaching the summit was unparalleled. The view from the top was surreal—on one side, the lush Kullu Valley, and on the other, the stark, barren beauty of Spiti Valley. Standing at the pass, gazing at the snow-covered peaks and dramatic landscapes, was a moment of pure bliss.

Descending to Shea Goru – The Magical Transformation

After celebrating our success, we began the descent towards Shea Goru, a picturesque valley with icy rivers and a breathtaking backdrop. The trek down was slippery due to melting snow, making it both thrilling and challenging. Our campsite at Shea Goru was nothing short of magical—isolated, peaceful, and surrounded by towering mountains.

Shea Goru to Chatru – A Glimpse of Spiti

The final leg of our trek took us to Chatru, where the terrain completely changed. The lush greenery was now replaced with Spiti’s rugged, cold desert landscape. The contrast was astonishing, reinforcing why Hampta Pass is considered one of the most dramatic crossover treks in India.

A Detour to Chandratal – The Perfect Ending

No trek in this region is complete without visiting the stunning Chandratal Lake, also known as the “Moon Lake.” The shimmering blue waters, surrounded by barren mountains, made for the perfect end to our adventure. After spending a few peaceful moments here, we headed back to Manali with hearts full of memories and cameras full of breathtaking shots.

Final Thoughts – A Trek Worth Every Step

The Hampta Pass Trek is not just a journey through changing landscapes; it’s a test of endurance, a chance to connect with nature, and an experience that stays with you forever. From lush valleys to stark deserts, from roaring rivers to silent peaks, every step of this trek was an adventure of its own. If you seek a trek that offers variety, thrill, and unparalleled beauty, Hampta Pass should be on your list!
