Flying Hanuman Phuket

A Full Review on Phukets Premier Attraction

By LIOPPublished 6 years ago 4 min read

If you are looking for a fun day in the jungle, being active and enjoying thrills, look no farther. Flying Hanuman Phuket lives up to all its expectations and more.

One of the things I enjoy most about Thailand is the amount of vegetation and wildlife. Staying on Phuket, you don't normally even get a glimpse of what is really here. Because it is such a developed area and full of people you would normally have to travel north to one of the countries national parks to see real jungle. But then I found Hanuman.

Located in an isolated area in Kathu, Flying Hanuman Phuket is a sanctuary among paved roads, night markets and tourist attractions. It allows you to spend a few hours in the jungle zipping and climbing through the trees and provides a good amount of thrill.

Before heading out there are a couple things you should take note of if you have never gone zip lining or ventured into a tropical forest before.

  1. It is extremely humid
  2. There is a moderate degree of physical activity involved
  3. There are stairs, uneven ground to climb
  4. You will be several meters above the ground

Needless to say you should be in well enough physical condition to be able to handle performing this activity. I don't think it is recommended for anyone with a heart condition and it's not something you want to bring your elderly aunt to after shes had hip replacement surgery.

Flying Hanuman Phuket offers various packages for various prices. The more you do the higher the cost (obviously) but it's also a lower price per activity. If you are unsure about completing every platform in the area you may want to try a lesser package first and return if you enjoy it. You will need to book ahead. I recommend contacting them directly as the price is a bit lower than booking through your hotel or an agent. You will need to setup your own transportation if you do things this way, but if you already are renting a motorbike it just makes sense to drive there yourself if you are close by. Another thing you should consider is to bring water with you. Hanuman will provide you with a bottle for when you are engaged in the activity but the cost of water from the snack bar is quite expensive. They provide you with a locker before you head out into the activity area and it will easily hold a few bottles until you are finished.

When you arrive at Flying Hanuman Phuket, the first thing you will need to do is check in. You should try and arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled time to start on your trek.

The next thing you will do is get fitted for a safety harness, a helmet and that bottle of water I spoke about earlier.

Once everyone in your party is ready to go the trek out to the trees starts. It is very humid being in a tropical forest but it's also a lovely break from the tourists and traffic on the rest of the island. You can clearly hear the birds singing their songs and see vegetation that most of us grow back home as small house plants.

Regardless of the package you chose, you will start off by climbing some stairs up a tree. This is the first platform. From there depending on how large of a package you purchased you will zip line across to other platforms, climb across a wooden planked rope bridge and quite possibly be dropped through a hole in a platform down to the forest floor while attached to a rope. Below is a compilation of some of the activities we performed.

As you can see in the video there is a lot of physical activity involved throughout the attraction. By the time we finished, everyone was quite fatigued and we were all ready for a good meal. The guides were kind enough to take a group photo of us at the end which was a nice touch. We also received T-Shirts with our package, a nice souvenir from a great day.

Our Party After Completing the Flying Hanuman Phuket

The Flying Hanuman Phuket is a great experience and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys being active. I would not do this activity after a night at the bar or out club hopping. You want to be in good health and able to perform moderate physical activities in hot humid conditions. You need good footwear and I went a bit overboard with the jeans, shorts would have been much better in such a hot climate. You may want to bring along some insect spray but we didn't have a problem with mosquitoes when we went. Another thing to note is going on this activity after a rain would be enjoyable if you don't mind a little water. You would be zipping through fog clouds as they roll down the mountain.
