We are all guilty of going out of our way to go visit certain places within the world just to take photos of attractions, learn new cultures and explore the worlds remarkable dishes and foods! These adventures make our lives look that little bit more interesting than they really are…

BUT there is an exception when visiting beautiful places such as this lovely little island… Cuba!

I was extremely lucky to travel to this extraordinary place on May 16, 2017 to have a two week vacation in (my eyes) one of the worlds most relaxing and beautiful places on the planet!

After engaging in various excursions located all around this magnificent island, one place in particular overwhelmed me when we ventured out; it was so prepossessing. This wonderful place is local city called Holguín.

Walking trough Holguín’s Vikas streets, countryside and local town square, quickly revealed a new side of Cuba many people may not be aware exists.

Amongst this old town stands a beautiful brass memorial wall for Fidel Castro himself, the man who governed the Republic of Cuba and became president.

Located in the centre of town square is a small replica of the Statue of Liberty, “San Juan de los Remedios,” located in Plaza Mayor, Holguín.

Cuba looks to have the American way of life: driving around are many vintage American cars such as this beauty… A 1959 Chevrolet!

American Cars and their heritage in Cuba!

Cuba is filled with old, long forgotten cars and many Cuban cars are fitted with diesel engines instead of the original petrol ones. However many Cubans use whatever they can to keep their cars as running for as long as they can, even using tractor engines in their trucks to double the power.

However it hasn't always been classic cars for Cuba. In 1998, there were more Chinese bicycles on the road than anything.

Back then American cars were considered to be something of a burden; gas guzzlers whose parts were impossible to replace thanks to the US economic embargo, this has effectively limited ties between the US and communist-run Cuba for much of the last half-century.

Whilst it’s illegal for Americans to travel to Cuba as tourists under the US law, in 2015 former President Barack Obama changed regulations to allow 12 categories of permitted travel.

For the first time since the Cuban Revolution, Americans could travel to the island. US airlines and cruise ships reestablished and agreed service to Cuba.

Famous Havana Rum

Havana Club is a brand of rum created in Cuba in 1934, and now one of the best-selling rum brands in the world. We acquired these bottles on a trip to Castro’s private island...
