A Windy Arrival in Windermere
Starting my trip to the Lake District in Cumbria.

Returning to the Lakes
The Lake District in Cumbria is home to the world’s many beloved authors including Beatrix Potter (Peter Rabbit), Arthur Ransome, famous poet William Wordsworth and his beloved sister Dorothy, and John Cunliffe (Postman Pat).
Along with having the largest lake in England it is home to beautiful countryside, wildlife and houses. Sheeps and cows roam freely in the fields. Boats of all shapes and sizes are available to hire. Windermere’s streets and shops are full of character and retained their home from home feel whilst keeping up with modern times.
Full of natural resources and tourist spots, the Lake District area is suitable for all seasons, especially for a spring or summer holiday. I just overheard someone say they were going on a pub crawl tonight.
Cruising Around
As I am writing this on my iPhone, I am sitting on a cruise around the lake. There’s plenty of facilities on the boat along with the occasingal voice over, but it’s just awesome to look around and see the trees stockpiling and the quirky houses and huts that pop up now and again.
Last time I came here was in 2019 on a coach trip to Blackpool were an excursion to Windermere was included in the tour.
It’s nice to be back. It’s nicer that nothing much has changed.

When I think of the Lake District, I also remember one of the nicest meals I ever had. It was Lamb Shank at a local pub near the Beatrix Potter museum. I no longer eat meat now, but I remember the food envy from everyone on my table. Having had a look around the gift shops and ice cream parlours, they do have plenty of vegetarian and a few vegan options.

Whilst waiting for my cruise, I found out what a bothy was. Walking past a White House, I noticed it had bothy painted in black by the door. These are types of accommodation that you can use free of charge, as long as you keep the place clean and suitable for the next person who comes to stay. I don’t know if you can just come in or out of how they’re booked, but there is also a cottage called The Bothy that sleeps 7, but I don’t think these two buildings are related though. I think the bothys are handy for people who are hiking and need a place of rest.
I am staying in a cabin house with my parents and aunt. It includes a swimming pool and a gym, and we will have a picturesque view of Cumbria in our rooms.
Lake District is perfect for adventurous people, because there’s lot of places to see and things to do. There’s also some iconic dishes here you can enjoy. I really love the Kendal mint cakes. Meat lovers will enjoy the Cumbrian sausages and the lamb shanks. If you have a sweet tooth there is Sarah Nelson’s gingerbread men and Sticky Toffee Pudding which is a stable pudding in many British restaurants.
I have plans to go back to the Beatrix Potter World and would also like to visit the Wordsworth Museum.
As you can see in the pictures, it is grey and it has been raining on and off a few times. It’s also very windy, especially when you’re out on the boats, but we haven’t let the weather bother us. We are expecting even better weather throughout the week. We’re here till Sunday. I will be celebrating the last week of my 20’s here and I’ll be turning 30 on Friday 13th. Hopefully it won’t be an unlucky day for me.
