Today we are going to have some fun time together, talking about the facts what it`s like to be a Hungarian here in the United Kingdom. Starting out with, who were/are some famous Hungarians and many other fun facts. I thought it would help to get to know each other. So let`s dive in.

So if you don`t know where Hungary is, I don`t blame you and you are not the only one. If it`s easier, it is a small country surrounded with famous places like Austria, Romania, Ukraine, Slovakia, Slovenia,… and couple more.

I always get the question, what language do we speak out there?! We speak Hungarian, which is one of the hardest languages in the world. So if wanted to learn Hungarian, that`s great, I support you, but you might want to think it through one more time before you go ahead with it. The other thing is with speaking Hungarian is that as soon as you leave the country, nobody understands you. And it`s not like Spanish and Portuguese, that you can kinda gather bits and pieces, but for us… nope… Nothing at all… We have literally zero language that is even close to ours, so that`s why we stay in there or learn at least one more language, if we want to go abroad.

But maybe we have a hard language, we are small and we are very often forgotten just in general, BUT we have gorgeous places here, let me show you some…

Budapest

Debrecen

Pecs

A thing that people usually know about us, other than that we have a pretty saaaaaad history, is the Hungarian food. Yes, Hungarian food is famous and it`s very delicious. We make a whole lot of stews, we cook with full of paprika. And some of our dishes are … Let`s just say, just by looking at them I gain 20 pounds. Check these out…

But luckily we are not just foodies, but we have a sweet tooth as well. We have some really good baked goods and if you ever go to Hungary, you need to stop by a bakery to try it out yourself, but just showing some of it to make you jealous.

So let`s get to famous Hungarians and inventions. First of all Erno Rubik, the inventor of the Rubik cube. I know that you have one or at least you tried to solve it once in your life. Were you successful?! You might, but possible that you gave up on it pretty early on, just like I did. I know you would expect that as a Hungarian, it`s in my blood. Well… that`s not true… I kinda wish it was, that would be so cool. The Hungarian superpower, speaking Hungarian and solving the Rubik cube.

Next famous Hungarian inventor is Laszlo Biro, the inventor of the biro pen or more commonly used the ballpoint pen. Yep, the pen you are using on a daily basis was invented by a Hungarian. Not many knows it, but it`s true.

So we already can see that there are smart Hungarians who left a living legacy for us, but just wait… there is mooooreeee…

Ignatz Semmelweis. Anyone knows who was he?! No?! Maybe someone in the back?! No?! Well, just a little help that he was called the "saviour of mothers", does that ring the bell?! Still no?! Well, he is the reason why mothers don`t die anymore when they give birth. He recognized that the medical professionals didn`t wash their hands between patients, which included that sometimes they went from autopsy to childbirth, dead people to a new life, causing "childbed fever". He discovered it and introduced it to the doctors and after they implemented the washing hand, the numbers went down drastically. When I mean drastic change, I mean that it reduced the mortality below 1%. That`s a big change thanks to him.

Let`s not forget about one of our famous Nobel price winner Hungarian, Albert Szentgyorgyi. He got Nobel price for discovering Vitamin C. Let`s be honest, that's a big deal. Maybe we don`t look at it as one, but it saved many lives, it helped inventing medications and many other thing. Soooo… It`s awesome if you ask me.

Probably, you are saying that it`s all great, rainbows, unicorns and cotton candy clouds, but they lived a good while ago. Don`t you have anyone who we can know and maybe not from a laboratory or a doctor`s office or something like that?!

My answer is, yes we do… So for years and years there were articles and articles coming out about that the Hungarian ladies are the most beautiful in the world. I`m serious, I`m pretty sure if you Google it, you can still find some of those, even I read those articles in the paper, before internet was a thing. I know, that was a long time ago. Whatever… Also, if it`s true and Hungarian women are gorgeous, you might ask, what happened with me?! Yeah, I ask that question myself every day. Apparently, the fact that one of my ancestor wasn`t from around here was enough to make me look nothing like a Hungarian. Just wait until I show you what I mean.

So, I present Hungarian Supermodel, Barbara Palvin.

Now you know what I mean. You might know her as a Victoria`s Secret Angle of from the new campaign of Armani. Oooor maybe you recognize her as the happy and proud girlfriend of Dylan Sprouse. Well… I would be happy and proud of that too, believe me. Ladies, should we pretend for a second than we don`t know who is Dylan Sprouse as we pretended that the guys don`t know who Barbara Palvin is.

Ok, met Cole and Dylan Sprouse as Zack and Cody from Suit Life of Zack and Cody on Disney Channel. Let`s just say, they changed a lot since then.

So yeah, she is Hungarian too and I think that`s pretty cool.

So now you see, Hungarians are super smart and super gorgeous, I`m not extremely any of those, but I`m still Hungarian, one who hasn`t lived there in the last couple of years. So, here is my back story.

You might ask why am I here in London, and am I lost?! Well… Maybe I am. I was born and raised in Hungary, moved to Scotland, then America, later went back to Hungary, then I moved here. This all happened within 5 years. 4 individual countries, 5 times moving in 5 years. Cool, huh?!

So yeah, this is how I got here and who knows where I will end up. Today it`s London, tomorrow who knows?! Maybe I will move to another part of the UK just to see how it is there. But wherever I go, I will always be just a drop in the sea.
