I admit it. I'm a Texan so I'm a little biased.

But besides that, it's pretty much universally accepted that Texas is quite the place to visit.

I'm sure you've heard (and maybe already know) it's a big state, but did you know that Texas has the second-highest population in the country? It also has more land than any other state in America!

With so much space and such an exciting culture, there are endless reasons why you should plan your next vacation here.

So let's talk Austin.

Or as you may soon see, "ATX".

Austin, Texas is a great destination for the whole family. There are so many fun activities that you can do with your kids while visiting this city. The best part about Austin is that there's something for everyone.

So whether you're looking to explore some Texas culture, or just want to have a good time with your friends and family, we've got you covered.

Read on and we'll take a look at 7 reasons why you should visit Austin, Texas this summer.

1. Austin has an amazing music scene.

Some say that live music was actually invented in Austin, Texas. Not sure that that's a true statement but what is true is that Austin is overflowing with musicians and live music.

So if you're a fan of rap, country, or rock there's an excellent chance your favorite artist plays in this city. Maybe some time at the famous SXSW festival will help too? If not then we recommend checking out one (or all) of our many amazing local festivals.

With venues like ACL Live and Mohawk Outdoor Amphitheater hosting concerts all summer long, and pretty much every night of the week, there's going to be something for almost every taste in music.

2. It's a great place for foodies.

The city is home to some of the best food in Texas, including barbecue and Tex-Mex cuisine.

The phrase "tex-mex cuisine" is enough these days to make someone's mouth water, but there are so many other great restaurants in Austin that offer some of the best barbeque you'll find anywhere.

Texas Monthy says that Franklin BBQ is "serving the best barbeque in the known universe." I'll just leave that right there.

And Tex-Mex?

Well giddy-up, you can't go wrong with Matt's El Rancho on S. Lamar. Get it!

3. There are plenty of outdoor activities for all ages

Such as canoeing on Lady Bird Lake or exploring Zilker Park's trails.

The Barton Creek Greenbelt is the perfect place for hiking, jogging or biking in a beautiful natural setting. It's also home to some of Austin’s best waterfalls and pools from which visitors can swim year-round (or just watch other people do so).

Long story short, "ATX" has what you're looking for if ourdoors is your jam!

4. Austinites love their pets so much that they even have an annual event called "Paws on Parade"

...where people dress up their animals and parade them around downtown for prizes! Austinites love their pets, so you'll find lots of dog parks and pet-friendly restaurants in town.

5. You can see the bats at Congress Avenue Bridge

Every night from May through October you'll be able to view as the bats emerge from under the bridge at sunset to feed on insects.

The bats are so fun, they even have their own day! In honor of these furry friends who provide us with such a great service in getting rid of those pesky mosquitoes and bugs that we sometimes don't want around our homes or while camping out for an evening - there's National Bat Appreciation Day.

6. Hike Up Mount Bonnell

One of Austin's highest points, Mount Bonnell is a must-do because it's one of the highest points in the entire city, and you'll be able to see some amazing views from there.

Mount Bonnell is a must-do for travelers who like hiking. Truth be told it's a great way to zap some energy from busy kiddos too. The hike up Mount Bonnell has so many different paths that lead uphill through beautiful scenery - waterfalls are even spotted at certain times.

7. 6th Street

You can't forget about our famous Sixth Street entertainment district with its eclectic mix of shops and restaurants perfect for an evening stroll or late night out on the town.

The Austin, Texas nightlife is one of the most popular things to do in this city. The Sixth Street Entertainment District has a long list with nightclubs and bars as well restaurants like Goodall's Kitchen + Bar that are open late into each evening for hours upon end!

Ok this is going to be an 8-parter because you cannot visit Austin and not stop into Voodoo Donuts on 6th Street. I'm a HUGE fan of these baked delicacies so be sure to pop in at least once.

Although I bet you'll want to come back for seconds. Maybe even thirds.

The wrap up

Austin is a perfect little city, offering visitors and families tons of activities to fill a weekend get-a-way or a several day's long vacation. It’s a city you may want to live in.

But I digress.

You don’t really sightsee here; you get active. You go out, hang out, and eat out. Personally, I'd pass on the museum tours and get outside, enjoy the food, the drinks, and the music, and get the most out of one of the best cities in the USA.

The city is full of hidden gems that only locals know about - discover them this summer!
