How to Become this Summer’s Hot Girl AKA the Instagram Baddie 2.0
The #HotGirlSummer hashtag trending summer 2019 has sparked a new form Instagram baddie—here’s how to become one.

The Hot Girl
It’s safe to say that "Hot Girl Summer" has been a recurring theme for Summer 2019. So what is this hashtag, and has it brought a new meaning to ‘Instagram Baddie?' The phrase "Hot Girl Summer" originated from Meg Thee Stallion’s song featuring Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign. So, not only is Hot Girl Summer the instagram caption of the moment, but it has become a new motto for girls across the world. In an interview with The Root, Stallion describes how "Hot Girl Summer" is for “women—and men—having a good time, hyping up your friends, doing you and not giving a damn what anybody has to say about it.” She further tweeted “Being a Hot Girl is about being unapologetically YOU, having fun, being confident, living YOUR truth, being the life of the party etc.”
The Instagram Baddie
So, how does Summer 2019’s hot girl differ from the Instagram baddie, a trend that grew in popularity a couple of years prior? An Instagram baddie, according to Urban Dictionary is “an extremely attractive girl, famous for being beautiful, spreading trends, having on point brows, and an unspoken confidence. Whilst the Hot Girl Summer baddie 2.0 is also all about confidence, this confidence isn’t from looking on point or trendy—it’s instead about having experiences and FUN.
The Instagram Face and Surgery
Being “you” and an individual as Stallion promotes in her summer anthem comes at a time where cosmetic surgery is rocketing and girls are beginning to look the same. Instagram and the Instagram baddie trend has been accused of promoting false beauty standards, with tiny waists and perfectly rounded bums, not to mention large lips. The NY Post describes the generic Instagram face and how it is becoming a dangerous beauty stereotype. Instagram is now full Kardashian clan lookalikes with overdrawn plump lips and heavy eyeshadow. Makeup artist Kevin James Bennett stated to The New York Times that everyone is starting to “look like a bunch of clones." It was shown that after Kylie Jenner admitted to having lip fillers, there was a 70% increase in inquiries about the surgery. Instead of turning to surgery, the baddie 2.0 embraces their own unique beauty, with the key to being you being in embracing individuality rather than conforming to a trend.

Workout For You
The gym and the rise of the fitness influencer has become another phenomenon prevalent on Instagram. Whilst the promotion of a healthy, active lifestyle is something to be celebrated, working out just to achieve certain goals such as a large bottom or thick thighs can be damaging. However, being a Hot Girl or baddie 2.0 isn’t about conforming to body ‘goals’ as set on Instagram. So go ahead and be active or tone up, but don’t sweat the small stuff. Toning up your body isn’t about losing weight or feeling bad about your lack of curves, it’s all about embracing your body and making it the best it can be. Work out not to try and fit into a certain beauty standard, but instead, to get your blood pumping, your muscles working and to release those endorphins that will ensure a positive mindset.

In essence, the key to being a Hot Girl and baddie 2.0 is about being YOU. Despite what Instagram may teach you, appearance isn’t everything, so instead of trying to keep up with trends and look like the generic Instagram baddie, spend your money on experiences and travel—this way, you’ll soon find that you are setting the trends instead of following them.
