Inside the world of professional wrestling, there is wrestling royalty. Over the past couple of years, the couple holding the biggest claim to the title of royalty is none other than Cody Rhodes and his lovely wife Brandi. They left World Wrestling Entertainment in 2016 to go out and forge their own path in search of greener pastures. And, did they ever!

Cody, along with several key players in the wrestling industry, pitched a dream to a future investor, Tony Khan. On January 1st, 2019, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) was founded. To walk away from AEW after helping to create the first true competition for his former employer would be crazy, especially for a vice-president of the company.

The announcement that Cody and Brandi were departing the business they helped to build took the internet and wrestling world by surprise. So, what's next for the man who would be king of the wrestling world?

A Return To WWE

Could a return to Vincent K. McMahon's pinnacle of sports entertainment be in the cards for 'The American Nightmare'?

In the world of professional wrestling, or rather sports entertainment, there are a lot of sayings. The most appropriate one in this instance is never saying, never. Looking back over the past 25 years of departing superstars, many of which left under clouds of controversy. Yet, nearly all come back if the right time, right circumstances, and the right amount of money is involved.

When Cody left WWE it was due to him being booked poorly, used below his capabilities, and not receiving the spotlight he desperately sought. In recent years his wrestling career has been on fire. He's wrestled some of the greats of today, helped tell some amazing stories in the ring, and helped to craft a wrestling empire in AEW. While there's no question that WWE remains the big time of sports entertainment, even Vince McMahon must see what Cody helped to create.

She's beautiful, intelligent, sexy, and fearless. Starting in WWE as an interviewer, Brandi met Cody married not long after. With Brandy by his side, Cody proved to be an unstoppable force of nature. His performances became top-notch and his business acumen in the industry quickly shined through to the surface. Cody was finally escaping the shadows of his iconic father, Dusty "The American Dream" Rhodes, and his brother Dustin "Golddust" Rhodes.

Cody Rhodes At Wrestlemania?

Main eventing the Super Bowl of wrestling and sports entertainment, Wrestlemania, is the dream of anyone that gets into the profession. Now that Cody Rhodes is free and isn't under a non-compete clause after leaving AEW, the sky is the limit for the 36-year-old superstar. Could Cody appear at Wrestlemania this year?

Cody would be the first star to cross from AEW to WWE since the 2019 debut of AEW and a Cody Rhodes appearance at Wrestlemania would receive a huge "pop". The only thing that would keep this from blowing the roof off of the stadium would be if it's an open-air stadium.

What would be the booking for a match or appearance at Wrestlemania? Cody Rhodes's appearance, if he's involved in the show, would require a bigger booking than he was getting before leaving WWE. But, it's no secret that Vince and WWE are looking for a major attraction since the termination of Vince's son, Shane McMahon. While they're entirely different guys, Cody and AEW have been doing some crazy things in AEW that would fit right in with the stunt performances typically done by Shane at the yearly event. Subbing Cody Rhodes in for Shane would be an incredible victory for WWE.

Cody Rhodes Dream Matches

With Triple H currently on the shelf after a heart attack, it would be unlikely to see HHH and Cody pick their intercompany rivalry up at Wrestlemania. But, WWE's been stagnant for a long time. If done right, we could see a "Wive's Run The Company" match with Brandi and Stephanie McMahon fighting for control of Monday Night Raw. In this booking, Cody would be at ringside and Hunter could participate on a limited basis if he's not clear for full contact performances.

Cody needs a big match with a big name involved and there are not much bigger names right now than Seth "Freaking" Rollins. In his current character "schtick" Seth is an insane heel reminiscent of the Joker. Seth Rollins V.S. Cody Rhodes for a shot at the world title would be an absolute dream match upon Cody's return and would fit right into Seth's story.

The internet is already abuzz with possibilities and wrestlers are chiming in from around the world with opinions on where Cody should go and who his first rivalry should be with. So, it's just a matter of time before we find out who is to face the American Nightmare first, and under what companies banner. One thing is for certain, it would definitely liven up Vince McMahon's overly stagnant WWE if Vince can bring this member of wrestling royalty back to WWE.

Who knows, maybe Cody can weasel his way into the Elimination Chamber in Jedda Saudi Arabia this weekend and replace Austin Theory. Then, while it would be tough to sell, he could main event his first Wrestlemania in 2022.
