Villanova 69, No. 24 Princeton 59
Somebody ranked Princeton (1-1) 24th and didn't rank Villanova (2-0) at all. The Wildcats fixed all of that with a 10-point road win over Princeton as Maddy Siegrist continued to show the NCAA that she's the best scorer in the game. The 6-1 senior forward from Poughkeepsie, New York led Villanova with 32 points, 13 rebounds and a steal. She shot 12-17 from the field, 3-4 from three and a perfect 5-5 from the free-throw line. This performance followed a 21-point effort in a win over Marist, Nov. 7. Siegrist averaged 25.3 points per game last season and has scored 1,868 points in 84 games during her career.
Princeton led the game 21-20 after one quarter. Villanova raced off to outscore the home team 21-9 in the second quarter, leading 41-30 at the half. Princeton trailed by just two at the start of the fourth but Villanova quieted Princeton's offense in the fourth outscoring them 16-10.
Toledo 93, Canisius 66
Host Toledo improved to 2-0 after throttling Canisius from start to finish. The Rockets were up 23-6 in the first quarter and never looked back. Guard Quinesha Lockett posted a double-double with 27 points, 10 rebounds to go along with six assists with two steals and just one turnover. The 5-10 senior guard currently has 1,421 career points in 92 games. She is averaging 18.5 points, seven rebounds and five assists after the first two games of the season.
Toledo shot the ball well and limited its turnovers. The Rockets had 17 assists and just 10 turnovers. They shot 45.3 percent overall, 41.7 percent from three and 80.6 percent from the foul line. Canisius had just five assists with 12 turnovers. It shot 35.7 percent from the field while putting up a strong 85.7 free-throw percentage and a 38.1 percent clip from three.
Seton Hall 75, Rutgers 57
Center Sidney Cooks travelled to Rutgers and showed out. The 6-4 senior from Kenosha, Wisconsin, led Seton Hall to victory with a dominant performance of 29 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and one blocked shot. Cooks shot 12-19 overall, including 3-7 from long range.
After stops at Michigan State and Mississippi State, Cooks transferred to Seton Hall last season, where she had a career season with averages of 15.9 points, 7.9 points and 1.5 blocks per game in 36 contests. She helped Seton Hall advance to the final round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament, where the team fell to South Dakota State, finishing with a 24-13 record.
The performance is Cooks second double-double in as many games this season. She opened the year 16 points and 16 rebounds in a blowout win over Saint Peter's on Nov. 7.
UNLV 100, Oral Roberts 84
Oral Roberts tried to hang as Hannah Cooper shot the lights out scoring 39 points on 12-19 shooting. That amazing performance just wasn't enough as UNLV (2-0) put up three digits on the scoreboard.
The talented Nneka Obiazor led the Rebels with 27 points. She hit 11 of her 19 shot attempts, including 3-5 from three. The junior is now a full-time starter after starting just three of her 33 appearances last season. In 2021-22 Obiazor competed in her first season at UNLV after transferring from Youngstown State. Despite coming off of the bench, Obiazor, a 5-10 forward from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, averaged 11.2 points and 5.7 rebounds. As a freshman she averaged 15.3 points and 8.1 rebounds, starting all 18 games at Youngstown State. This season she is averaging 17.5 points and 4.5 rebounds after the first two games.
