Let's take some time out to check out the fastest freshmen in the NCAA. This list includes women who are in their first outdoor season on the NCAA Division I level. Some athletes may technically be sophomores or even juniors but if they have never participated in an outdoor season due to redshirt or COVID-19, we are going to include them on this list. Fastest Freshmen 100 Meters times in NCAA

Joella Lloyd, Tennessee, 11.19

Joella Lloyd is a Tennessee sprinter that ran the eighth fastest time (11.19) in the NCAA on May 1 at the Tennessee Challenge. She became an All-American during indoor season when she qualified for the 60 meters final at the NCAA indoor championship meet. She placed sixth in the final at 7.23.

Thelma Davies, LSU, 11.21

LSU's Thelma Davies' time of 11.21 is the eleventh fastest in the NCAA. She recorded that time at the 93rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, March 25. Davies placed second in that race. While she has yet to win an open 100 meters race, she has had third place finishes at the Louisiana Classic (11.57), in March and the Crimson Tide Invitational (11.40), last month. As a true freshman in 2020, she placed third in the 60 meters at the SEC indoor championship meet.

Melissa Jefferson, Coastal Carolina, 11.22

Coastal Carolina's top sprinter Melissa Jefferson has the 13th fastest time in the NCAA. Her third place finish (11.22) at the UF Tom Jones Invitational saw her finish behind upperclassmen Jayla Kirkland of Florida State and Jada Baylark of Arkansas who are in the top NCAA's top 10. Jefferson earned wins in her first three outdoor meets, which were the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational (11.41), CCU Chanticleer Challenge (11.41) and Gamecock Invitational (11.27).

Kiana Foster, UL-Lafayette, 11.23

At the SLU Pre-Conference Tune-Up, UL-Lafayette's Kiana Foster ran her top time of the year of 11.23 at the SLU Pre-Conference Tune Up on May 1. It was a blowout win as her runner-up finished at 11.54 and all other competitors completed at the event at 11.71 or slower. Her finish was the 14th fastest in the NCAA. During the indoor season her first 60-meter final win came at the Sun Belt Indoor Track & Field Championships (7.37).

Tionna Brown, Alabama State, 11.29

Alabama State's Tionna Brown sprinted her way to the 22nd fastest time in the NCAA with a finish of 11.29 at the War Eagle Invitational. Representing the SWAC, Brown bested an All-American sprinter in Cincinnati's Caisja Chandler and SEC competitors as well as fellow freshmen Jada McDougle of Mississippi State and Auburn's Destiny Charles. Brown won the 60 meters (7.31) and 200 meters (23.87) championships in the SWAC during the indoor season.

Alexa Rossum, Stanford, 11.29

Alexa Rossum of Stanford is tied with Brown with the 22nd best finish in the NCAA, at 11.29. Her winning time at the Cal vs. Stanford Big Meet on May 1, was her second open win in the 100 meters. Last month, Rossum got her first win at the Oregon Relays (11.71). Those were the first two victories of her collegiate career in any event.

Jonah Ross, North Carolina A&T 11.30

The 26th fastest 100 meters finish in the NCAA belongs to Jonah Ross of the track and field factory, that is known as North Carolina A&T. This school has set a new standard of competition for Historical Black College and Universities with some of the most talented sprinters and hurdlers in country. Ross' time of 11.30 was fourth best at the 93rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
