Top Scoring Players on Fantasy Football (Week 13)

Analyzing the highest scoring players, by position, during Week 13 of the 2024 season

When it comes to Fantasy Football, we are very close to the end here. Week 14 is about to start, and in some leagues, Week 14 is actually the last week of the season before playoffs, as some leagues have three playoff rounds--but no more than that. So yeah, because of that, Week 13, which came and went, was definitely crunch time for those looking to get in, or for anyone looking to hang on to a top spot in leagues that allow playoff byes.

Week 13 was quite thrilling in the world of Fantasy Football, and here's a look at the players who took the top spots in specific positions:

QB: Jameis Winston

A lot has been said about Jameis Winston as an NFL QB. We've seen him have some good flashes, but sadly, he's known for the turnovers. It definitely didn't help his case that he actually threw 30 picks in a season, and I think nearly 1/3 of them were Pick Sixes. This performance during Week 13 proved that he's more than the turnovers. Fantasy scoring for quarterbacks: 1 point per every 25 passing yards (or 0.04 points per passing yard), and passing touchdowns are 4 points each. Interceptions are usually a 1 point deduction, and lost fumbles are a 2 point deduction. Winston's numbers: 497 yards (19.88 points), four touchdowns (16 points), ran for 11 yards (1.1 points), a two-point conversion pass (2 points), but threw three picks (3 points deducted). Even so, 35.98 points is a lot! Even with the interceptions, Winston racked up nearly 20 points worth in yards alone!

RB: Bucky Irving

Bucky "bleepin'" Irving. Yes, I went there. Irving was definitely the MVP of Tampa Bay's OT win in Charlotte for sure. Fantasy scoring for runningbacks: 1 point per every 10 rushing yards, touchdowns are 6 points each, and PPR applies. Irving ran for 152 yards (15.2 points) and a touchdown (6 points), and also caught three passes (3 points) for 33 yards (3.3 points). Irving finished with 27.5 fantasy points, finishing two points ahead of division rival Bijan Robinson for the lead in the RB position.

WR: Jerry Jeudy

Some people want to see the world burn. Jerry Jeudy only wanted to see Denver burn, and he wanted to do the burning to his former NFL home. Fantasy scoring for wide receivers: Points Per Reception (PPR) applies (usually a full point), 1 point per every 10 receiving yards, and touchdowns are six points each. Jeudy's big numbers: 9 receptions (9 points), 235 yards (23.5 points), a touchdown (6 points), and a two-pointer (2 points). Grand total: 40.5 fantasy points. Jeudy saved my ass in one league on Monday, because if I hadn't picked him up, I would have been eliminated from playoff contention.

TE: Brock Bowers

A tight end showed out big time at Arrowhead on Black Friday, but it was not Travis Kelce. Scoring for TEs is the same as WRs, and regarding Brock Bowers: 10 receptions (10 points), 140 yards (14 points), a touchdown (6 points), and he ran for a pair of yards. That's 30.2 points, and I had the unfortunate distinction of having to play against him in a matchup I needed to win to stay alive in another league. Yikes.

K: Chad Ryland

Here's how scoring for kickers goes: extra points are 1 point, of course. Regarding field goals, those under 40 yards are worth 3 points, 40-49 yard FGs are worth 4 points, and those 50 yards or longer are worth 5 points. Chad Ryland took the nod, making four FGs from under 40 (12 points), a 40-yarder (4 points), and an extra point, totalling 17 points. Ryland finished one point ahead of both Chris Boswell and Chase McLaughlin, doing so without the benefit of a 50-yard kick.

DEF: Denver Broncos

Here's how scoring for team defenses goes. Regarding scoring defenses, a shutout is 10 points, giving up 1-6 points is 7 points, giving up 7-13 points is 4 points, giving up 14-20 points is 1 point, giving up 21-27 points is no points, giving up 28-34 point is a 1 point deduction, and giving up at least 35 points is a 4 point deduction. Elsewhere, sacks are 1 point, interceptions are 2 points, safeties are 2 points, fumble recoveries are 2 points, blocked kicks are 2 points, and touchdowns are 6 points. Coming full circle, the Broncos defense showed out the most, and what's impressive about that: they took the top nod despite the final score being so high. They had three sacks (3 points), three interceptions (6 points)--two of them returned for touchdowns (12 points), but gave up 32 points (1 point deduction). They still finished with 20 fantasy points despite all of that. That is just impressive.

We are very close to the playoffs in Fantasy Football, and the incoming Week 14 is a last chance in custom leagues, while in normal leagues, some teams still have one week left. Good luck to anyone who has already clinched playoff spots, or is looking to get in!
