Top Scoring Players on Fantasy Football (Week 12)

Analyzing the highest scoring players, by position, during Week 12 of the 2024 season

By Clyde E. DawkinsPublished about a year ago 3 min read

Week 12 was quite an appetizing week, especially for those of us in Fantasy Football who were making that playoff push. Week 12 is part of that final stretch in Fantasy Football, as the regular season in that field is down to the final two or three weeks in that field. It's usually by this point that the trade deadlines have passed, and teams have to pretty much hope that their rosters either continue to thrive, or come through and climb that ladder

As for Week 12, let's take a look at who showed out and served as the top players in their respective positions.

QB: Jayden Daniels

In all of the madness in the Cowboys/Commanders game, Jayden Daniels continued to prove his immense worth and show what he's made of, despite a heartbreaking defeat. Here's how fantasy scoring works for quarterbacks: 1 point per every 25 passing yards (or 0.04 points per passing yard), and passing touchdowns are 4 points each. Interceptions are usually a 1 point deduction, and lost fumbles are a 2 point deduction. Daniels threw for 275 yards (11 points) and two touchdowns (8 points), but threw two picks (2 point deduction). He also ran for 74 yards (7.4 points) and a touchdown (6 points), and also scored a two point conversion (2 points). In all, Daniels racked up 32.4 fantasy points, finishing just under four points ahead of second place Patrick Mahomes, and third place Tua Tagovailoa.

RB: Saquon Barkley

He's done it again, folks! Saquon Barkley is definitely on his way to being my Fantasy Football MVP this season. Scoring for running backs goes like this: 1 point per 10 rushing yards, touchdowns are 6 points each, and PPR also applies in some cases. Saquon's numbers in the game against the Rams: 255 rushing yards (25.5 points) and two touchdowns (12 points), along with 4 receptions (4 points) for 47 yards (4.7 points). The total: 46.2 fantasy points! Here's the thing. Even if you take away the touchdowns, Saquon still would have led RBs in fantasy scoring for Week 12. Holy cow!

WR: Jordan Addison

Scoring for WRs goes like this: PPR is applied, and most leagues awards a full point per reception. Also, it's 1 point for every 10 receiving yards, and touchdowns are 6 points each. For Week 12, Jordan Addison's efforts against the Bears earned him the top nod for WRs. 8 receptions (8 points) for 162 yards (16.2 points), and a touchdown (6 points), totalling 30.2 points. Addison finished a half point ahead of Courtland Sutton (29.7 points).

TE: Trey McBride

Very surprising that a standout performance would occur in a 16-6 game, but that's what happened with Cardinals tight end Trey McBride. Scoring for TEs is the same as that for WRs, and regarding McBride, he had 12 receptions (12 points) for 133 yards (13.3 points), totalling 25.3 points. Seriously, Points Per Reception is the best thing to happen to Fantasy Football. It makes scores look so good when the WRs and TEs catch so many passes.

K: Wil Lutz

Here's how scoring for kickers goes: extra points are 1 point, of course. Regarding field goals, those under 40 yards are worth 3 points, 40-49 yard FGs are worth 4 points, and those 50 yards or longer are worth 5 points. Wil Lutz took the lead for kickers in Week 12, making two field goals in the 30s (6 points), one in the 40s (4 points), two in the 50s (10 points), and a pair of PATs. A grand total of 22 points; the only kicker to surpass 20 points in Week 12.

DEF: Dallas Cowboys

The only certainty from that wild Cowboys/Commanders episode was that Dallas' defense would end up as the top scoring unit on Fantasy. Here's how scoring for team defenses goes. Regarding scoring defenses, a shutout is 10 points, giving up 1-6 points is 7 points, giving up 7-13 points is 4 points, giving up 14-20 points is 1 point, giving up 21-27 points is no points, giving up 28-34 point is a 1 point deduction, and giving up at least 35 points is a 4 point deduction. Elsewhere, sacks are 1 point, interceptions are 2 points, safeties are 2 points, fumble recoveries are 2 points, blocked kicks are 2 points, and touchdowns are 6 points. Regarding the Cowboys defense, they gave up 26 points (no points), had four sacks (4 points), two interceptions (4 points), a fumble recovery (2 points), and returned two kicks for touchdowns (12 points), totalling 22 fantasy points!

Other than Saquon, I had Dallas' defense, but... I didn't start Dallas' defense in Week 12. Oh boy. I know this much. Whoever started each of those players in Week 12 made out like a bandit. The home stretch continues, and again, good luck to all of you in Fantasy Football!
