GVSU Holiday Open Preview

Welcome to Track & Field 2k22! The GVSU Holiday Open is the start of the collegiate indoor season for various collegiate teams located in the Midwest. It takes place Dec. 3, at Grand Valley State in Michigan. We will take a look at some of the athletes that we look forward to watching compete at the meet and throughout the upcoming season.

Eastern Michigan's Brenna Cavanaugh is scheduled to compete in the 60 meters, 200 meters and 60-meter hurdles and long jump competition. The senior from Bentleyville, Pennsylvania competed in three meets last indoor season at Grand Valley State. She placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles at the GVSU Snowdown Showdown.

Central Michigan's Camiyah James is a freshman who is coming off of a decorated high school career at LaKota East in Ohio. James placed third in the long jump at the state high school indoor championship meet for the second straight season. In 2019 she earned a silver medal at the outdoor state championship meet in the 800-meter relay. At the GVSU Holiday Open, James is scheduled to compete in the long jump.

Michigan State's Autumn Glover is scheduled to participate in the long jump competition. Last season, Glover competed in one meet where she placed second at the UM B1G Silverston Invitational in the long jump. During her high school career at South Lyon East she earned a third place medal at the 2019 Michigan high school state finals in the long jump.

Grand Valley State's Angelica Floyd is a multiple time All-American NCAA Division II sprinter. Last season she won the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championship in the 60 meters with a career best time of 7.44. At the 2019 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships she placed seventh in both the 60 meters and long jump. At the GVSU Holiday Open she is scheduled to compete in the 60 meters and 200 meters.

Eastern Michigan's Angel Gazaway is scheduled to compete in the 60-meter hurdles and 200 meters. Last season she was a finalist in the 60-meter hurdles championship race of the Mid American Conference for the third time in her career. Gazaway competed in the 2019 GVSU Holiday Open as a sophomore where she placed second in the 60-meter hurdles. She finished second in that race to Jaiden Paris of Michigan State who is scheduled to compete in the 60 meters at this year's meet. She placed fifth last season at the Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 60-meter hurdles final.

Grand Valley State All-American thrower Emma Richards is scheduled to compete in the shot put. Last season she qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships shot put final, where she placed 13th. In 2019 she faired better at the NCAA indoor meet with a sixth place finish.

Alysse Wade of Eastern Michigan is scheduled to compete in the 60-meter hurdles and 200 meters. The 2020 Mid-American Conference 60-meter hurdles champ returns to the GVSU Holiday Open where she won the 60-meter hurdles in 2018. She competed in the 60-meter hurdles at two Grand Valley State meets last season. She won at the GVSU Snowdown Showdown and placed third at the GVSU Big Meet.

Toledo sprinter Ava Moran is scheduled to compete in the 60 meters and 200 meters. Last season, as a sophomore, Moran placed third in the 60 meters at the Boling Green/University of Toledo Dual meet. This will be her first time competing at Grand Valley State since her freshman year in 2020, when she participated in the 60 meters preliminary round at the GVSU Big Meet.
