Patriots star Stefon Diggs charged with felony strangulation, assault

New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs is facing a felony strangulation or suffocation charge along with misdemeanor assault and battery in connection with a December 2 incident — charges he denies as he prepares for a January court date.

If Stefon Diggs goes down for his allegations, this could not only upset the playoff chances for the New England Patriots, his alleged victim would find some justice.

The football star is accused of misdemeanor assault and battery and felony strangulation and suffocation.

To keep on track, Diggs has been a key piece to the Patriot’s winning season this year. What he has to do is show he has not committed what he’s accused of right now.

As of this writing, Diggs has not been suspended from the team.

In fact, the team is “standing by” their player.

But what about the person he allegedly choked? Will they have their say over what happened to them?

A January court date will get to the beginning of what may be a long and agonizing call to justice. When he stands before a judge, he will have to show his best decision making skills.

As long as he doesn’t perjure himself, he should be okay. Again, where is this alleged victim, though?

What happened to their rights. They might not be a grid iron superstar but they have rights as a human being. It’s either that or this person is lying, allegedly.

Facts, evidence, and proof will have to be the deciding factor in all of this. Diggs will have to present a defense that is airtight and able to cut through the supposed nonsense surrounding him.

To regard his alleged actions as particularly heinous, a judge or jury will have to figure all of that out with speed. In his time with the Patriots this season, he has put up 82 receptions, 970 yards, and four touchdowns in 17 games. The team is definitely going to back the man who has produced so much this year.

His statements will have to match his numbers if he is to keep going through this process of the legal system.

But who is sticking up for the alleged victim? Does he or she have a say in the matter besides the allegations? What is the level of honor to be paid to them?

What Diggs has to do is be patient and wait for the word on high. In this instance he must continue to fight for his right to participate in due process.

With such little time in the NFL season, it would be a shame to see the stellar athlete go down over some serious foolishness. His reputation is already damaged. But that might not mean anything.

He could elevate past these allegations like the late great Kobe Bryant did for the NBA. But this seems to be a stickier situation. The events allegedly took place on December 2 of this year. He might have trouble with memory by the time he gets to the point of relaying his story.

It’s still anyone’s game. He’s got the chance to clear his name in the courts. Of course he’ll hire the best legal defense team available. But what will such firepower really do to quell the raging forces of allegations set up against him?

If he has the ability to maintain his integrity and say he is not guilty of the allegations, he might just be able to play football.

As he enters the realm of law, he will have to decide whether or not he will want to spend a good chunk of his life behind bars or he will be cleared of all charges. Let’s see where that goes….

He won't have to worry about a suspension and he just might yet to get to hold up some hardware in February.
