NFL Week 6 Recap: Sunday Night Heat

The Detroit Lions and the Kansas City Chiefs' primetime clash ended with a huge brawl

Wow. We're at Week 6 already. The final week of the first one-third of the 2025 season, and we have arrived at that very point. Of course, the talk from Week 6 was the Sunday Night contest between the Detroit Lions and the Kansas City Chiefs, the latter coming off a Monday loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. They needed a big statement win on that evening, and they did get it. A 30-17 victory to bring them to .500 (3-3).

However, it's what took place after the game that made all of the waves. A huge brawl broke out between the teams, and it started with Patrick Mahomes looking to extend his hand to Brian Branch in a show of sportsmanship. Instead, Branch extended a hand of his own... to Juju Smith-Schuster's face. Yeah. Branch started that huge fight, and it doesn't shock me. I remember last year, when Branch pulled some dirty shit against the Packers. So yeah, this isn't surprising.

The punishment was handed out quickly. A one-game suspension for Branch. The loss snapped Detroit's four game winning streak following their loss to the Packers on the opening week.

Good news, Nashville. The big, dumb man can't hurt you anymore. The proverbial axe fell for the first time this season, and while many expected it to strike Mike McDaniel, it actually landed on someone who had it coming: Brian Callahan. Callahan, who makes Brandon Staley look like Tom Landry, was fired by the Tennessee Titans as their head coach after 1 1/3 seasons. In 19 games as head coach, the Titans only won four games, and the team's last game under Callahan was a loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in one of the three games in the late window. It had been said many times that the Titans firing Mike Vrabel was a big mistake, especially since he's doing wonders for the Patriots, who defeated the Saints in the early window. Oh, by the way, the Titans host Vrabel's Patriots next week.

Speaking of the Dolphins, boy, are they totally screwed up. Miami lost a close one to the Los Angeles Chargers, and afterwards, there were talks of players showing up late to meetings from Tua, whose words were appeared to be dismissed by Mike McDaniel. Yeah, that team is all messed up. They are 1-5 and their only win was against a Jets team who would lose 40-0 to the Little Giants. They're not the only team who's messed up. The Baltimore Ravens are also down to 1-5 after their 17-3 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, and they will take that record (and their hopes for Lamar to be back to save their asses soon) to their bye next week.

The rest of Sunday's early window saw the AFC South tie broken when the Indianapolis Colts won over the Arizona Cardinals, but the Jacksonville Jaguars fell to the Seattle Seahawks. The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Cleveland Browns easily, but the centerpiece was the Dallas Cowboys falling to the Carolina Panthers, led by another wild performance from Rico Dowdle--who ran all over his former team. The Panthers improved to 3-3, sitting ahead of the Cowboys in the overall NFC standings.

The abbreviated late window also saw the Green Bay Packers in action after the bye, and we made good work of the Cincinnati Bengals, winning 27-18 at home. This was our first win in over a month, yet despite this, with Detroit's loss later on, the Packers are back on top of the NFC North at 3-1-1! Also, we're currently 2nd in the conference, only sitting behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who dominated the San Francisco 49ers in the late window to improve to 5-1 this season.

We were treated to a pair of Monday Night games this week, with the first one being the Atlanta Falcons hosting the Buffalo Bills, and this game served as more evidence that Josh Allen is not a top 10 QB. The Bills were dominated by an up-and-down Falcons team because Josh Allen can't throw an accurate pass to save his life. Falcons won 24-14, handing the Bills their second straight loss, meaning that both teams who were the last to lose have now lost back-to-back games. It also means that with the loss, the New England Patriots are now in first place in the AFC East thanks to that Week 5 victory over the Bills. The other game featured the Washington Commanders hosting the Chicago Bears, and we all remember that Hail Mary from last year. So did the Bears, and they fought back in comeback fashion, winning 25-24 with a last second field goal. That means that with this loss, the New York Giants are the only NFC East team to win this week. Yikes.

We are now one-third through the season, and look what we have. No unbeaten teams. Only three teams have just one loss (Colts, Buccaneers, and Steelers). We're in an AFC where the Chargers and Patriots are in first place, the Chiefs are up-and-down, and the Ravens are in the shitter. In the NFC, the East could be on the verge of collapsing upon itself, the Packers lead the North at 3-1-1, and the Buccaneers look like a juggernaut.

Week 7 kicks off the heart of the season, and will begin with an AFC North battle between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday Night Football. We will receive another international game, as the Los Angeles Rams and the Jacksonville Jaguars will clash in London. On Sunday Night Football, the San Francisco 49ers will host the Atlanta Falcons, and we will have a Monday Night doubleheader. First, the Detroit Lions host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, followed by the Houston Texans and the Seattle Seahawks facing off.
