By Mark Wesley Pritchard Published about a year ago 6 min read

Now that I've shared my American League division winner predictions and opinions of each team, it's the National League's turn. There was a plethora of outstanding moments from many NL teams during the 2024 MLB regular season, including the Postseason. If you would like to see my AL division winner predictions, you can click the link down below. Other than that, here are the NL teams who I think will win their respective divisions.

NL East Winner: New York Mets

OMG! The 2024 New York Mets had a magical season and one of their best seasons since 2015. Back in 2015, they made it to the World Series before losing to the Kansas City Royals. David Wright, arguably one of the most beloved players on that team and one of the candidates for the 2025 National Baseball Hall of Fame, retired the following season. As for the 2024 Mets, they beat the Brewers in the Wild Card round, embarrassed the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS, and advanced to the NLCS before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers, which they went on to win the World Series. After starting the 2024 season 0-5, people were quick to write the Mets off. However, they refused to give up and started getting back on the right track around May and finished the season with an 89-73 record, clinching a playoff berth. With all due respect to the Phillies, they can win as many NL East division titles they want, but the results in the playoffs will always be the same: falling short of a World Series title. Don't get me wrong, they have a talented group. However, you can't have the same coaches, manager, and players, expecting different results. They lost to the Houston Astros in the World Series in 2022, lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks in a crucial Game 7 of the NLCS, their first ever in team history. Just to remind everyone, the Phillies had a 2-0 lead and eventually choked a crucial Game 7 to a much younger D-Backs team and rookie Brandon Pfaadt, which they would advance to the World Series before losing to the Texas Rangers in five games. Unless the Phillies make minor changes to their roster, they'll always be seen as a mediocre team. They lack discipline at the plate and always swinging for the fences. In other words, they always try to hit home runs. I'd like to see them hit RBI singles or doubles. Rob Thomson will return as Phillies manager in 2025.

NL Central Winner: Chicago Cubs

When you think of this division, you automatically think of the Milwaukee Brewers capturing that title. As good as the Brewers are and filled with amazing players such as Christian Yelich and Willy Adames, they were one and done once again in the 2024 Wild Card round, losing to the Mets. So why did I choose the Chicago Cubs to win the NL Central? They were on the cusp on securing a playoff berth in 2023. Unfortunately, they lost so many games in the last month of the season that they missed the playoffs. In the 2024 season, the Cubbies finished with an 83-79 record, but 10 games behind the NL Central Champion Brewers: the same record as the St. Louis Cardinals. There's a rumor that the Cubs might not sign any more players before the new season begins. Besides, they have the best players on that team with the likes of Shota Imanaga, Ian Happ, Dansby Swanson, and Pete Crow-Armstrong. I feel that in 2025, the Cubs will be the team others in the division fear the most.

NL West Winner: San Diego Padres

The Padres have been exciting to watch in 2024. They had so many walk-off wins during the regular season that it's hard to keep count. I happen to have watched at least a couple of those. They finished the regular season with a record of 93-69, clinching a playoff berth. They reached the NLDS until they were eliminated by the Los Angeles Dodgers, who would go on to win the World Series. With names like Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis, Jr., and Jackson Merrill, I see them becoming an even much improved team in 2025. It shows that you don't need a large payroll to make bigger impacts on the field every season.

As for the Dodgers, they've won the National League West every year for over a decade. I would have chosen them to capture the division title again, but it's time for a new team to take over. A huge payroll doesn't impress me. I gave the organization the huge side-eye for spending over a billion dollars to sign several players. As much as I respect Shohei Ohtani, no player needs $700 million, even though $680 million of that was deferred. There's nothing wrong with wanting more money, but I always found the aforementioned amount ridiculous. I'm going to say a few things that will make Dodgers fans mad, but it needs to be said. I've already upset many of them already on social media. First, the 2020 World Series title was not legitimate, because it was a pandemic year, and many baseball fans aren't willing to acknowledge that victory as valid. Also, it would've been inappropriate to do so as millions of people were in quarantine. So technically, the Dodgers won seven World Series titles. While I commend them for winning a World Series and actually playing a full season, I'll never acknowledge the 2020 World Series victory. Never have and never will, no matter how much the Dodgers and their fans want everyone else to. If you were on the Dodgers 2021 or later, won at least a World Series title for another team before coming to the Dodgers during the non-pandemic season, as long as it was not with the Astros, I'll acknowledge those wins as valid. The only players on the Dodgers who gets the highest praise from me are Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman. After catcher Will Smith, aka The Fake Prince of Bel-Air (yes, I came up with that nickname), called San Diego Padres player Jurickson Profar "irrelevant", I lost all respect for him. Profar is more well-known than Will is, so what was he talking about? He seems to love instigating and provoking opposing players, including their division rivals. Pitchers Walker Buehler and Joe Kelly do the same thing. Finally, Clayton Kershaw, aka Chokeshaw, is the definition of "all bark, no bite". He acts like a fake tough guy whenever it's convenient for them. Not only that, but he made transphobic comments last year because the Dodgers were having a promotion inviting The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to Dodger Stadium during Pride Month. He was complaining about something that had nothing to do with him and had no control over. Kershaw is a devout Christian, so he's most likely a bigot. Just because you're religious, it doesn't mean that you can dehumanize and deny someone's existence. Being a Christian is not a hall pass to disrespect those who are different from you. Regardless of who someone is, they need to be treated with dignity and respect. So no, Clayton Kershaw is not the innocent player the Dodgers and their fans claim to say that he is. I used to respect him, but I now see him for who he is: a bigoted player who treats other people different from him like crap. He's fake as hell and think that he's the good guy, which I call BS. He's supposed to be "the face of the Dodgers." Now, I believe that title belongs to Shohei Ohtani. I'm a few months older than Clayton but born in different years. However, it doesn't change the fact that he's an awful person and I'll never respect any MLB player who's potentially a future Hall of Famer that is so blatantly transphobic and possibly homophobic. Because of all the aforementioned things, the Dodgers will not repeat as World Series Champions. Their attitude has completely turned me off. I hope that the Padres will make even bigger noise and capturing the NL West crown. During the NLDS, they egged poor Fernando Tatis, Jr. on, who returned from an injury a month prior, and it shows that the Dodgers and their fans have zero class. It's one thing to support your team, but Dodgers fans throwing objects at Tatis made me look at the Dodgers differently. Some of the Dodgers players are complete instigators and love to antagonize their division rivals. I'm looking forward to seeing the Padres embarrass the Dodgers and win the NL West.

So those are my NL division predictions for 2025. Do you think that the Dodgers will repeat as champions? Sound off in the comments and be sure to subscribe to my page on Vocal.
