My Brutally Honest Thoughts About Bryce Harper

The reasons why my patience is starting to wear thin on the All-Star

The 2026 Major League Baseball regular season is fast approaching and we're here for it. The offseason has been filled with blockbuster trades and headlines. Will a new World Series champion be crowned? Only time will tell. In this story, I'll be discussing a player who has been on the minds of baseball fans lately. I'm talking about Bryce Harper and why has he been in the news, you ask? In case you didn't know, Phillies General Manager Dave Dombrowski stated that the All-Star needed to do his best to reach the organization's standards. Dombrowski didn't say that Harper was the terrible player, but Harper took Dombrowski's remarks as an attack towards him. Bryce Harper will be entering his 15th season in MLB and will turn 35 in October. What Dombrowski said was facts, because Harper is being paid all of this money and has been struggling at the plate. My theory is that Bryce Harper doesn't like constructive criticism and throws a huge fit about them. He has a reputation of being a hot head. Examples include arguing with umpires about bad calls (yes, most of them had justifiable reasons for him to be upset about them), cursing out Commissioner Rob Manfred last season over a proposed issue while he visited the Phillies clubhouse, and being sometimes rude to reporters. If you've watched any compilation videos of players being ejected or angriest players in MLB, most likely you'll see Bryce Harper in those. Regarding the incident involving the Commissioner, Bryce was in the wrong for cursing out the person in charge of the league. I understood how he felt at the time, but he could've taken the Commissioner to the side and calmly discussed his concerns in private. Also, Bryce should've been the bigger adult and kept his demeanor towards Manfred professional. No matter what your feelings are about Rob Manfred, I believe that all players should have a level of professionalism, whether in the clubhouse or at events. Whether Bryce likes it or not, just like a regular job, he's under evaluation just like every player and everyone else in their respective ball clubs.

These instances make me not like Bryce Harper that much. Is he a talented player? Absolutely, but it's his attitude that I don't like. It's a huge turn off and my patience has started to wear thin of him. Recently, the Phillies released Nick Castellanos because of multiple incidents that occurred last season. Now that he's with the San Diego Padres, I hope that Casty will have a much positive 2026 season with his new team. Bryce Harper has been in the league since 2012 and will remain with the Phillies for a few more years. However, if he doesn't keep his anger and overall attitude in check, his days as a Phillie will be numbered. When he was with the Washington Nationals, Bryce was the definition of an ultimate badass. No one dared to mess with him. Now, my feelings about him have changed. He's been with the Philadelphia Phillies since 2018, meaning that he left the year before the Nationals won their first World Series title. Had he stayed in Washington, Bryce wouldn't have won a championship with them.

The Philadelphia Phillies have the potential of winning the National League East again this season, but as I've stated in previous stories, they're still not a championship caliber team. Even with the acquisition of World Series hero Adolis García from the Texas Rangers during the offseason, my prediction still stands unless they prove me and everyone else wrong. Ever since losing a crucial Game 7 to the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2023 NLCS, they've have yet to make it past the LDS. They haven't won a World Series title since 2008, and it has been five years since they were in the Fall Classic. There are three Phillies players who have won a World Series title with different teams: that aforementioned García, Kyle Schwarber, and Trea Turner. If Bryce Harper wants to win a ring, he has to control his emotions and listen to Dave Dombrowski's advice.

Phillies fans have the right to support and defend Bryce Harper. Us baseball fans are very observant and notice everything. Over the past 15 years, Bryce Harper's mood has gone up and down. He has to tone his attitude down a bit. Otherwise, he'll suffer a similar fate as Nick Castellanos. An MLB player can be stellar on the field and have a toxic personality. We call players who bring nothing but negativity to their respective teams as clubhouse cancers. Bryce Harper will be identified as such in a compilation video on YouTube in the future if he doesn't take a chill pill. His performance also has to improve, because I haven't been impressed. The Phillies still have to learn how to have plate discipline, meaning not always for home runs. As exciting as home runs can be, there's nothing wrong with playing small ball. I'd love for them to hit RBI singles and doubles. I don't hate Bryce Harper in the least. It's just that his attitude has been off-putting. He's nearing his mid-30s, so I hope he calms down and stops taking every constructive criticism as personal attacks. I've always had his back and defended him, but now, it's hard for me to do that if he's always going through these yearly mood swings. Don't get me wrong. I'll never take away the achievements that Bryce Harper has accomplished throughout his career. I hope he wins a World Series title with the Phillies before his career is over and also gets inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in the future. This story isn't meant to trash him. I want him to win in life and if he were to run into this story, I want him to know that the things I've said so far are out of love, not callousness. Baseball fans don't like players with horrible attitudes, inflated egos, or those who act entitled. Those traits get tiring and old to us. We want players who appreciate and love their fans. It's not to say that Harper doesn't love the Phillies fans or is appreciated by them. I hope that this is the year the Phillies finally achieve the ultimate goal: winning a World Series title so that they can shut that other team from California that we won't mention on here and their toxic and unruly fans up. I would praise Bryce Harper to the highest. My advice I would give him: take care of business and let the bullshit go.
