Money talks: Floyd Mayweather sues Showtime, claims he’s owed over $340M
The 48-year-old Mayweather, who went 50-0 professionally, has earned a reported $1.2 billion in fight purses.

Floyd “Money” Mayweather seeks to claim his namesake from Paramount. Once affiliated with the streaming giant, Showtime Sports is said to have owed the champ $340 million.
Mayweather alleges that money supposed to be paid to him in pay-per-view receipts became unaccounted for and never reached his bank account.
For the 50-0 professional career record, boxing great is making sure he gets his money right while enjoying retirement. Sure he’ll do an exhibition fight here and there (one is supposed to feature Mike Tyson) but that’s not going to keep his multimillion mansions financed. That’s not going to preserve this pristine collection of exotic vehicles and it won’t send his children to graduate school.
At this point, Mayweather may be spending more than he is taking in and he is on the hunt for new sources of income regarding his finances. A lawsuit is the all-American way to get some funds in your wallet. With this particular case, there seems to be a bit of bitterness as Mayweather conducted business with Showtime before fights.
Mini-documentaries captured the lifestyle of the squared ring champion. His family members cropped up on numerous occasions. He presented himself as a figure that could not be stopped in the ring nor at the bank.
But something fell through here. Instead of claiming full accountability, Mayweather claims that Showtime fumbled the bag and engaged in shady business practices.
His income now is nowhere near where it was fifteen years ago. The truth is that he has to squeeze the eagle in every way he knows how to do. A fraction of his earnings have trickled into his pockets ever since he walked away from the ring professionally with a perfect record. Now, he is scrambling like a quarterback in the pocket. To seek such a high amount, it appears as if he is going to have to settle out of court for something like $250 million.
That was about the amount he earned on the Manny Pacquiao fight. That set a precedent for the largest fight in history, moneywise. Still, Mayweather presses in with the lawsuit, claiming fraud had been involved in the whole thing.
Mayweather might be one of the best business minds in boxing. He certainly showed his skills in the ring and outside, he ensured that he would maintain his near billion-dollar fortune.
As one of the smartest boxers ever. Mayweather demonstrates how life post-boxing can look. He may have stocks and bonds. He might have private charities he donates to and reaps spiritual currency from such endeavors. Whatever the case, the legend is still trying to keep his financial life intact. He picked up over a billion dollars off of the eyeballs who watched him win again and again.
At this point, it’s all about securing his bag so that he can enjoy the fruits of his labor. In order to get what he wants out of the deal, he’s going to have to hunker down and keep his finger on the trigger. If he wants to not only survive but thrive, he will have to use his best legal team to capture every crumb and morsel from the pie Showtime offered him.
Mayweather is a prime example of a businessman who will never back down from a monetary fight. His intensity and the wit in his fists (mind) have shown him to be extremely strategic. Anything he does from here will set a high benchmark for other professional athletes to have to deal with other parties.
On the corporate side, who knows what money Showtime didn’t pay him. It almost doesn’t matter. It’s the principle of whether they owed him almost five hundred million dollars or five cents.
The boxing great still is aware of his money and the fact he put in the work to reap what he has sowed.
